Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the last advice you guys gave me. I have a quick question my boy Achilles is gonna be 9 weeks tommorow. His testicles have not yet droped. I brought him to the Vet today he didn't really say too much about it, But he did mention if he's not neutered his testicles may develop into cancer. I was planing on getting him neutured anyway, has anyone else had this problem. Do you think they may drop within the next couple of weeks?

Thanks All

Yes, with a 9 week old pup there is still a chance that they'll drop. Normally testicles are in place by about 6 weeks, and definitely by the 8 week mark when pups go to their new homes. But that's "normally", and it can still happen a bit later (some come down only to go back up though).

The inguinal canal through which testicles descend closes at around 3-4 months of age. Once that happens, the testicles are staying on whichever side of the canal they're on (so if descended, they're not going back up - and if retained, they're not coming down). You do hear of people hanging on in hope for up to a year - but you never hear of that hope being rewarded ;)

Anyway, it doesn't really make that much of a difference to you. His neuter would be a little bit more involved than a standard one, since the abdomen has to be opened to locate missing testicles, but that's about the only difference. If left intact, yes, the testicles would have a high risk of turning cancerous OR (less talked about, but just as real) wrapping around other organs or twisting, which is life threatening. That's a small risk if he's neutered by about 6 months though.

My boy has one undescended testicle and at a year (has SAS and no one wanted to neuter him) he developed testicular torsion-very painful and required an emergence neuter. He did fine under anethesia but I was sorry I waited. Good luck with your pup

Our boy Moby had one undescended testicle.
we could actually feel it in the inguinal canal. he was neutered at 5 months.
he had two incisions. one in the scrotum and one small one in the fold of his hind leg (wear it meets the belly). the neuter was a little more complicated because of the two incisions but Moby was bouncing around the next day....as if nothing happened.
our vet didn't feel the testicle would descend on its own so we opted to have him neutered sooner rather than later. he was going to be nuetered anyway...so we figured...why wait?
good luck with your boy.

Duke had one as well - we waited until he was about 4 months, but then after reading everything on here we decided to go ahead and have the neuter done. Like everyone said, it's a little more involved. We had a terrible vet at the time and Duke had complications (a nasty infection and needed drainage tubes put in!) but all the complications were the VET'S FAULT and we found a wonderful vet to straighten him all out. If you're going to neuter anyways, there's not really any reason to wait much longer than the normal age you'd neuter him at!

Should the breeder split the cost of the Neutering surgery since its going to be more complex?

I don't think so. Cryptorchidism happens and it isn't necessarily within the breeder's control. Not unless they were irresponsible enough to have bred a crytorchid dog, anyway. Assuming that not to have be the case, then I think you just have to accept that's the luck of the draw. It shouldn't cost significantly more than a standard neuter.

Good new's everyone I brought him to my vet by my house. The vet said that they droped, but on the sad not the Diarrhea that he was having was due to worms which I don't really get where he got it from but he's on some meds right now. Thanks everyone for helping me out It's really hard raising a puppy since its my first dog.
