We are going away for the new years holiday to my home in TN. We were going to leave Austin at a kennel while we were gone, but BF decided it would be better to leave him with his family.Call me crazy but I go nuts when I have to leave him at someone else's house. I feel like I am being way to possessive but I am worried they are going to take him somewhere or do something wrong with him! I am also extremely jealous they got to have him for christmas with his family (I know I am nuts but I can't help it!)! I just wanted to validate my feelings to make sure I wasn't a maniac for feeling this way. Any one else get anxiety when you leave your baby, or get jealous!! I am freaking out!

:o I feel the same way you do. I hate taking my babies to the kennel so now I just have my best friend come in and stay with my dogs in their own house.

   I know exactly how you feel. In October, now Ex-BF and kid and I went out of town. I was going to leave Owen kenneled at our vet, but they only let him out three times per day!!! I was lucky enough to find a boxer family on boxerworld to sit for him. I left their phone # at home and went all over Orlando looking for a computer with internet access so that I could find the phone # in my e-mail! I just had to see how my boy was doing :o !

Don't worry, most of us think of them like they are our children. We don't trust most other people to take care of them, we want them around for all the holidays, we worry about them, etc. :) . It's part of being a good parent.

If it was someone I didn't know very well, or was comfortable with then I'd be worried. But I call my parents up every once in awhile and ask if they'll babysit the grandkids(furkids). :) I usually only do that if I'm going to be out late with friends or dates. They don't mind and the furkids just love nana and papa. I don't get jealous because the happier they are (furkids) the happier I am. I guess it just depends on who is watching them. Also, don't feel bad (your not nuts) they are your feelings so don't worry about having them. Everyone is different!
Hope you have a fun and safe New Years!

We don't take family vacations but we do travel alot in the summer, 3-4 day stretches. We bought Cami her very own motorhome so that she could always go along with us. For years during racing season I have slept in numerous hotels, tents and trailers.....we get a dog and TADA, now we have a motorhome! Go figure......

I don't leaving Tuggy at a kennel but I have no choice. BUT the kennel he does go to has 2 20 minutes playtimes, then I can get optional play time. I always get 2 extra. He is SO tired by the end of the day that he sleeps. I also work part time at that kennel so I know the enviroment. That is also his doggy day care place to!!

I don't even like leaving them with my family. I decided a long time ago that they will go with me. I can't have it any other way. I am obsessive that way.

I hate leaving Austin period. But if I HAVE to my FIL comes and stays here with him. You need to ask yourself where your baby would be happier and more comfortable.....at BF's family's house or in a kennel.

I trust Toffee with very few people. And I always call to check on her daily, regardless. I also talk to her on the phone :)

BTW, you don't need to worry that Austin will love you any less just because he stays with your BF's family. Toffee stays with my parents most of the time right now (non-stop travel for work that I cannot avoid), and she still loves me the most (I am sure of it!). She gets very excited when I talk to her on the phone, goes nuts when she sees me, and sleeps with me every night that she can. Leave him where you are most comfortable leaving him, but don't be jealous of other people in his life (you need that in case you have to leave him with someone).

We brought our babies to the kennel so that we could go to family reunion-type event over a 3 days weekend. We missed our dogs so much and were so concerned we actually only stayed one night, returning early just to make sure our dogs were ok.

Our home has baby gates and automatic door closers all in an effort to keep our dogs safe.

You are not alone!
