I highly recommend doggie daycare!! It's my lifesaver!
My 8 mo. old was scared to death her first day but now she goes in there wiggling her little butt. She goes 2 or 3 days a week and it's nice because she comes home tired and happy which means rest for me. My daycare is small, about 20 dogs max. and they have a little viewing window so you can always come in and see what the dogs are up to. She did get bit by a jack russell (mean little dogs!) and it really scared her but she was still excited to go back the next time.

siilence--- don't feel bad about talking about your job!! it sound really cool... and thank you for helping to quiet my fears a little more.... it's great to hear this coming for an actual day care worker...

when we were there and all the way back coming from the first interview i thought i had lost my mind.. kofi never barks or behaves crazy like she did and now i know it was because i was there... she has another appointment for monday which is good and the lady said they had 3 boxers there.. which is such a relief because boxers are different... she also sounded a little bit more mature and confident on the telephone... i think i'm also going to be a little bit more assertive with all lthe questions everyone has raised... wish me luck... as much as i do want this to work out i would rather leave her safe in her crate with a dog walker than in a place i wasn't comfortable

boxer kisses and sloppery drool... vickie

Completely Boxer Crazy
It is so true that dogs will act differently when you're not around. I was transferring one of my foster dogs to a different foster home and she acted like a real doofus while I was there. She was growling at the foster mom's other dog and just being a real pill. As soon as I walked out the door, a halo apparently appeared over her head and she behaved like a dream thereafter (after embarrassing me thoroughly!)

Boxer Pal
Alternative to Day Care

Hi everyone,
I took my first Boxer to a Daycare facility several years back and she ended up really sick. She also scared some of the other dogs because of her normal Boxer behavior. Mojo is now at the Bridge but I have a 5 month old and I do dog sitting from my home. I don't do the daycare thing because it's just too much traffic, but there are people around who will come to your house and take the dog for walks. This is just an alternative and you may even find people like me who do daycare from their homes. It's really much less stressful for most dogs and instead of concrete floors the dogs have carpets and furniture.
My little Madison is a handfull at 5 months, but she is getting very well socialized and most of my other dogs get along with her just fine.
Try looking under Dog Services in your local phone book if this is something that might be better suited for your furbaby!

We looked at a couple of places before settling on a day care. I was allowed to stay in the room while they introduced the Charlie to their resident dogs. She is great with most dogs in a outdoor environment but when she was this small place she went nuts barking. I was sure they wouldn't take her but they did and now it is the highlight of her week.

This day care takes all the dogs into the mountians for 2.5 hours in the morning and then again in the afternoon. They run free while the handlers hike the loal trails. She can't even keep her eyes open when I pick her up. We get 2 days of peace - the one that she is gone and the one following.

she survived....
yesterday was kofi's first day at daycare... i think i was the most nervous i've been since her spay... silly right? anyway when i picked her up she was sooo happy to see me... they gave me a little report card about her day... apparently she stayed close to the camp counseler (person) and didn't really play but explored the room... i guess this is going to be a slow transistion but not imposible... my whole family teased me immensely about how nervous i was acting and how proud i was when i showed the little report and proceeded to hang it on the fridge.... as i treat on the way home i stopped and got her some french fries...

boxers you gotta love em

and to the best board ever
thank you all for the advice and comments... i think my dog is happier for it....

*to you she's just a pet... to me she's an adopted daughter that's short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly!
