Thor whines. If you talk back in a "woe is me" tone you can have a whole conversation. lol Arabella's woo-woo's are more like a pirates arrghh's, hence her nickname Scurvy Dog. Arabella is my third and most vocal boxer.

I was wondering what this Boxer "woo-woo" was too. Glad to finally know what it is! Farah only does it when she's frustrated (telling her to 'Stay' when she really wants to go somewhere or being in crate past 6 am) :P

Cleo will woo woo if she feels neglected. If we are on the computer or phone and she feels it is time for bed. She often does it if she needs to go out or it is dinner time. Cairo on the other hand just like all males let her do all the talking and work.

Rocky only woo-woo's if we are both at the breakfast bar on our computers and he feels like we are ignoring him. HE HATES when our back is turned towards him. It isn't a straight woo-woo though it's a mix of barking, woo-wooing and whining.

He also whines for everything, EVERYTHING.

MY fault though - I just can't ignore like we are supposed to - I feel when he whines he is trying to tell me something and so I respond.

Like yesterday after work - I took a shower. He was on the outside of the door whining the ENTIRE time. I opened the door after I was done and he was just laying there waiting for me. Then wiggly nub and off we went to play ball.

Oh, THAT's woowooing? That first video--bowser does that all the time, if we go to the vet and he can't go play with the dogs, if we have a toy and we keep it away from him, generally when he wants something... I always thought it sounded like we were killing him!

He also does the sounds in the second video when he plays with his squeaky hotdog. Chewbacca growling until he works up to a full blown howl... so cute. =)

Johann is woo-wooing me as I'm typing this, he really wants the cheese stick that I'm eating.

I love how their jowls stick out sideways when they woo-woo....too freaking cute. :)

He's still not getting my cheese stick, not that cute. Ok, whatever, I just have him half of it. Such a pushover.

Boxer Pal
lola did this all the time when we first got her. she would talk and talk, but she doesnt really do it anymore. i have tried to get her to, but for whatever reason she has outgrown it over the past year or so... maybe because our other dog doesnt make any sounds? hmm.

I think we are talking about 3 different things. Coz whines, "talks" like Chewbacca, and has a WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo.

The whine is the most common. Like now. Because I'm typing this and not doing his laser pointer right. If he wants a walk or to be played with he'll whine as he knocks things off the coffee table (had to break that habit) or noses his leash. He talks usually when he's uncomfortable about something, like when I'm packing a suitcase. Although sometimes he'll just give me a FYI: OOaayyaaaooaaahhh! .... I'll keep that in mind. The Woo, is for special occasions. Like when some guy knocked on my door selling some sort of cleaner or something. The woo is quite a thing. The lips flair out and he can keep a very pure and steady tone and volume for quite a while: Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I definitely agree. I think the woo-woo and the chewbacca noises are separate things, the woo-woo actually SOUNDS LIKE "woo-woo." Coz sounds like a very good woo-er from your description. :)
