We have a 13 week old male puppy. He is starting to teethe. Do you know if it causes him discomfort, and if so, what can we do to help him?

I actually bought real baby teething toys for Riley. Of course, I supervised him when he was chewing on them. His favorite one that he still uses is a handle with a star shaped teether attached to it. When he chews it, it vibrates which is soothing for the gums (I assume it is anyway :)). I also gave Riley carrots. At first I had to dip one end in peanut butter to get him started, but once he got going he loved it!! Another thing you could do is to take a washcloth, soak it, and then freeze it. When it's frozen give it to him and he'll chew on it.

We gave Apollo several things also. A sock with ice cubes in it (of course, you need to supervise this one because they have it too long and it just gets everything wet!), a puppy teething ring (they actually make plush toys that are meant for this purpose), he also really seemed to like a plain jane rubber chew toy. The softer and more forgiving for their teeth, the better!
