Teaching an Old dog new tricks???

Hi everyone,
I have been feeling a little guilty lately. Angel (my 5 year old spayed female) has always been a little aggressive with other dogs, to the point that I cannot take her to off-leash parks. She does socialize with her "pack" that go out together 3-4 times a week, so she does have doggie friends. I have a 6 month old male (named Bing) who is just the opposite of Angel. He wiggles and dances with EVERY dog he meets, and gets along with everyone. I took him to the off-leash park on Saturday and I had so much fun watching him play and interact with all of the dogs there. I really wish that I could bring Angel with me as well, but I know that would be a disaster waiting to happen. I feel so guilty because I made mistakes with Angel in her upbringing. For the first 6 months of her life, she was living in an abusive household, and then afterwards I dote on her...probably too much. I guess my question is can I teach/train Angel to be ok with all other dogs, or should I just enjoy the time I spend with each of them??

My older guy is just the same. He doesnt play well with others at all. He did eventually learn to get along with our next door neighbors Alaskan Malamute after much growling and snarling. We take him to the park and have to keep him on the leash and away from other dogs. I have been told by the place I used to kennel him that he would get along sometimes with the other dogs...so I tend to think with him it is a protection thing and him not wanting other dogs near us. I may be wrong. We are bringing in a new puppy in a few weeks and I am nervous about how he will react.
We have recently been working very hard on his separation anxiety and have trained him to sit and stay in one room and not follow us around all the time. He's 10 so it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks. Good luck.

Thank you for the positive thoughts and stories! I am feeling optimistic that Angel can get along with other dogs, they just have to be introduced in a neutral, non-threatening environment. Angel is VERY protective of me, more so than the BF. I will keep you updated on her progress!!
