OK - so I have decided Zoe has tapeworms. Had nasty stools the first couple days from the wormer they gave her at the rescue we got her from. Then she was fine, but yesterday the yucky poops started again. I have noticed white, rice looking things that wiggle in her stool. Classic tapeworms from what I have read. Called the vet this am - they are going to give me a pilll called Droncit for the worms. I am a little concerned simply because she is only 8 weeks old. I guess they get these from fleas, so she will be having a flea bathe this evening as well. Just wanted to get thoughts on any side effects, etc anyone may have experienced with regards to this particular de-wormer and also wondering if I should expect this to be an ongoing issue or if one treatment plus flea control usually does the trick? Thanks guys! - Alyssa

I work for a vet and I have never seen any adverse reactions from droncit and we use it in puppies a lot. It usually does the job in one treatment, but we usually give the owner another dose to repeat in 3 weeks.

Don't worry

Yea that medication is the good stuff. Your pup will be fine. We use the Revolution drips on out pup every month for fleas, tick and heartworms.

Yuck!!!

So I took Zoe to the vet. They were hesitant to give her pills as she is so young. They had to give her a shot - she cried! Pretty sad! Anyways, have been home about 2 hours now and OH MY GOD!!!! She just passed the WHOLE TAPEWORM!!! I have never seen anything so absolutely sickening in my life! AAAARGH! That was thouroughly disgusting and to think that has been growing inside my poor little baby. If you've never had the pleasure of seeing a tapeworm, may I suggest you avoid it at all costs. Truly nasty! Glad that is over and done with. I cannot imagine that it could have felt good to have that thing in there - although she never let on that there was an issue! Will be buying some frontline as the vet says that is his preference. Hopefully will NEVER have that to deal with again. Yuck, yuck, yuck! - as to any other side affects to the medication - well - there don't seem to be any! Has been running around the house chasing the kids all night long! Thanks for the advise on the tapeworm meds!
