Switching to Canidae

As any of ya'll know who seen many of my posts....Herkie can only eat blended canned food. I recently switched him to NutroMax...and at 1st, I liked the results, but now...his stools just aren't what I think they should be. So I did a search and found where Canidae is sold in my area, and went and found the place. It was a little grooming place called Canine Castle, and the woman who owned it was soooo knowledgeable, unlike a lot of the robots at Petsmart, who always ask "what kind of dog do you have", and that's it...you know they really don't give a $h!t. It's just a job to most of them, not their passion or love. Well, anyway, I will be taking the boys to be groomed here also, from now on. So you all wish us luck on our switch to Canidae....as I know many of ya'll have had success. It's going to cost me about $20 more every 2 wks...but since I already spend $60 every 2 wks....what's $20 more? Just a couple of meals out, that I don't need....and hopefully better health for my boy!

On a side note, something else that won me over....this lady was boarding a boxer :) and she said the owners feed him Iams smashicon, because he threw up everything else. Well, she's had him for about a week, and has been feeding him Canidae...with no problems. She said Iams is a horrible food, which we know, and is going to try and convince the owners to switch to Canidae. Once again, wish us luck with our new food.

Jessica,

I'm curious. How much will the Canidae cost you? I buy it for Tae up here in Raleigh at an independent pet store and pay $22 plus tax for a 20 lb bag. I buy it in 20 lb quantities, since Tae only eats 2 cups/day. The reason I ask is my usual place was out of 20 lb bags, so I tried a froo froo place and the woman told me a 20 lb bag was $29. I decided to pass and actually went and bought a 5 lb bag from my usual place until they got more in.

Well... I think hers was $25....but I can't remember for sure, but if Herkie does well on the cans, which are $1.50 a piece...or 24 for $29, then I will start buying the kibble too, and blend in with the cans....I feel like it makes his food a little more solid and helps his stools also. Have you tried the Snap Biscuits? The small bag was $4 and Herkie LOVED them....I can break them up fairly easy, I have to break them into VERY SMALL pieces, but he doesn't mind, as every treat he gets is tiny anyway. And I hope I don't sound ridiculous....but those things actually smelled good! They smelled as if humans could eat them...not that I would, tho! Have you checked the www.canidae.com , that way you can find more places in your area that possibly carry Canidae...for when your regular lady is out.

The two places I have been to buy Canidae were the only two that are really closeby (I located them through the website a coupla months ago), but a new pet store just opened nearby. It's literally around the corner. They didn't have Canidae in yet and the guy had no idea how much it would be, but I do plan to check on their price.

I have not tried the Canidae snap biscuits yet, but they are on the shopping list! I got a $2 off coupon in Tae's newest back of kibble and plan to buy some of the biscuits this week. I've been debating what to do for Tae's birthday and I might just get her a bully stick, at which time I might pick up the biscuits. $4 isn't so bad, especially with a $2 off coupon!

Talking about treats that smell good LOL, do you ever buy the Old Mother Hubbard treats? I usually buy the mini sized mixed flavor ones for Tae. I decided we needed a change in flavor and bought three small bags of other flavors--peanut butter, bacon and cheese, and spearmint and parsley. They all smell really good!!

I had a friend when I was young whose dad ate a Milkbone in front of us. I told my dad who told me that was yucky b/c the factories where dog treats are manufactured are not sanitary. I try to remind myself of that whenever Tae's treats smell good LOL!!!!

I too recently switched Oscar over to Canidae. And so far so good. He really likes it and his stools are firming up.
Hope you have good results.

Hi, I just switched Buster to Canidae too and he loves it. He has only been on it mixed with the old food Hills Science so I can´t really tell what good it is doing to him yet. I was happy to find out that they were selling Canidae here in Hong Kong, I was afraid they wouldn´t have any of the highly recommended ones like Canidae, Solid Gold etc.. I have been reading so much good stuff about it here on Boxerworld and really wanted to try it.

Canidae didn't work out so well w/ my boy Cassius (caused him to lose hair), though Nikki seemed to do okay on it. it costs about $29 for the largest bag (cheaper than Innnova and Prairie Dog).

BUT my dogs LOVE the snap biscuits! Even my husky-mix (at my parent's house) who is usually a VERY picky dog (he's a strange one) loves the Snap-Biscuits. If you ever attend dog shows, look for a Canidae both, they had a special for 2 bags for $4 bucks! good luck finding it cheaper!

That's exactly like the place near me that sells Canidae. I love Launder Dog. They have a station to wash your own dog and then a groomer also. They sell only the best food and grooming products.
The first time I went in, I just was checking it out, how much the food was etc and they talke dto me for like 20 minutes.
Anyway, Luka's breeder fed him Chicken Soup- which I liked and had settled on before I got him. But the more I read about Canidae, I think we'll be switching too- plus, I think Luka is getting bored!
