Oscar loves water. However he will only go into to deep waters with his life vest. If there is shallow water, forget it he all over the place. His favorite game is to stick his whole face in the water and blow bubbles. What I sight, I can't stop laughing when he does this.

Funny this should come up so recently after trying all my boxers out in our pool. (we just moved 4 months ago).

Hoss & Jr - Can't swim worth *poop*. Just enough to keep their heads above water. There bottoms are almost straight down! LOL

Jasper, Jasmine, Mitzi & Laci - All can swim pretty well. Laci & Jasmine probably the best out of the 4 of them. But, even though these 4 can swim fairly good, I would NOT trust them very long in water by themselves. They seemed to tire pretty easy.

Go buy a doggie life-vest if your dog will be around water alot.
I am planning on buying one or two so they can enjoy the pool (able to cool off), and not tire easily.

Oh....and I took some pictures of them in the pool. As soon as I get the pictures developed, I will post them.

We have an ingorund pool in the back yard and Hannah will go in, but only to the second step of the kiddie pool on her own. She want to go in after the kids but she is still trying to figure out why the water won't support her :D She will swim to the edge if taken into the pool without any problems but is not real happy. Mainly she's upset that she got wet and messed up her hair.

The funny thing is our lab mix hates the water, sinks as soon as she touches it. She resist even going out the back door in the summer. (we have had her since she was 3 months old and got her from the shelter). No idea why daisy acts that way, they have both been exposed to the water as soon as they came into our home.

I have a 5 1/2 year old male and Jackson has loved the water from the first time we introduced him. We live in Tucson, and I think it may be from the heat. But a week ago my wife and I took Jackson to the lake and he jumped right in and swam 20 feet out to me. It was probably one of the most enjoyable times that I have had with him so far. I have also heard a lot of stories of boxers that will not get near the water so mabye He's just a breed apart but I won't complain. I have a picture of him on Show off your dog. It's called "waterdog". Good luck with your little babies and the water. Great topic.

I want to Thank all of you who have posted replies to our question. It seems that the breed in general is not fond of the whole concept of swimming, but possibly will enjoy playing around in it. Over the weekend we had her into her mid-chest area, but wasn't to keen about going too much farther yet. There may be hope!! Thank you again, and keep posting!

All I know is that she hates her bath time....but during training I had a squirt bottle and I sprayed her face when she did something I didn't like and she LOVED it!!! She licked the water off her face....is she confused???

we've only been to the seaside once since we got Boris-now 13 m/o- .it was still cold so we just walked alongside the beach. we were throwing a stick and at one point it accidently fell in the water. fortunately he was on a leash cause he was ready to make the big jump:eek: we live in greece ,so sea and sun is plenty.hope Boris will like the sea cause he'll be seeing a lot of it in summer:p

There is only one way to teach a boxer to swim. You must don a thick top ( to avoid getting scratched) and you must carry the boxer into the water and hold it under the tummy while it flails and scratches you, its legs churning wildly !!! After your back is broken and your body resembles a tiger attack your boxer will have a marginal idea about the mechanics of swimming. Eventually , after many lessons , your boxer will simply swim away from you, towards the middle of a great lake , in hot persuit of an irate swan family. After you have swum out to rescue the boxer, towed it back to shore and congratulated your self on your successful rescue mission, your boxer will leap into the lake again and robotically repeat this exercise!!! At the end of your long, hot, mosquito ridden day, as you slowly repack the car, your boxer will swim to the far side of the lake and dissapear into the undergrowth. After a lenghty , leg and face scratching search of the gorse, of which any boys scout association would envy, you discover your boxer has already returned to the car and is sitting on the drivers seat waiting! Who said dogs are stupid!!!!!

Not only can Angus swim.....but, if he see's the water, he runs and jumps in like a little kid.....If we throw a stick or anything else in the water he runs in to retrieve it, if the water is alittle deep he acts like a deep sea diver , putting his head under water to look for it. I'm quite sure he is part DUCK...It is so funny to watch....we take him to the lake or creek whenever we can in the summer becuase it's like a comedy act.....GO ANGUS!!!!!!!!

We are very exited for Chief. Today we went down to the lake to see if our boy could swim. The first thing I did was to see if he would go in on his own but he didn't so I went in first up to my knees to show him that it wasn't that scary and he came in up to his chest, he seemed to like it. I know that one of his favorite things to do is play frisbee so I had gone out to buy a water frisbee to take with us, and I started to toss it around in the shallow part at first then gradually got a little deeper, Chief really loved it he couldn't get enough of it. After a couple hours of playing in the shallows he was swimming out to about 20-30 feet and loving every minute of it. He would bring the frisbee to my feet and then go stand in the water up to his chest and wait for me to toss his toy back into the water. I had to make sure to give him a breather every so often so that he wouldn't be to tired out, he seemed to never run out of energy. He slept soundly all the way home. We are so proud of him he found something he really loves to do that tires him out so well. By the way he is going on 6 months next week.fiesta1ico
