Boxer Insane
Typically, not very good. Of course there are always exceptions just like there is the occasional Lab Retriever that doesn't like the water. From an anatomical standpoint, Boxers aren't really built to swim well. They have deep and wide chests which make them very front-heavy in the water and their cropped tails don't make for very good "rudders" so maneuvering in the water is more difficult. Combine that with a short muzzle that results in inefficient breathing and just can't stretch out of the water as far as other breeds and you see why Boxers aren't really the Michael Phelps of dog breeds.
If they do swim, they are one of the breeds that runs a higher risk of exhausting themselves and sinking like a stone. Most vets and trainers will agree that it is safest for any dog to wear a life jacket while swimming but especially so for breeds built like Boxers.

Agreed.
Kisaq loves to play in the water - splashing and biting - but he has yet to want to swim. I plan to teach him next summer just to be sure he never has a problem because we are around rivers, lakes and such, A LOT. And I take him kayaking.
But I will be teaching him to swim with is PFD on. I just wouldn't expect a dog with this high a percentage of muscle to body fat, to swim without a floatation device, except in an emergency.
Boxers are not generally known as a swimming breed, but having said that Diva was an awesome swimmer, but she grew up on the beach pretty much, but it wasn't a natural thing for her to swim - she had to learn. Diva was an awesome swimmer and was so confident she would body surf the waves at a local beach that is known as a surfer's beach, so there were some big waves. I have to admit that Diva never wore a lifejacket. It was one of my life's pleasures to watch Diva swim and she used to draw a crowd - such was such a show off :D
Monty on the other hand could not swim and he would sink like a stone
Dora can swim and we both found that out by accident when she hit a hole at the beach and sank but then popped up like a cork and then swam, but I don't think that it is one of Dora's all time favourite things

Struddel(white Boxer) could swim but did not like to. I found this out by accident at the duck pond. While chasing ducks she ran full speed off a 5 foot embankment and plunged into the water, sank like a stone! I was just about ready to go in after her when she popped up!
She went about 4 doggies lengths towards the ducks and then thought "apparently" screw this and came ashore! Never went swimming again but she did like to play in the water but did not like rain!
