I've just managed to book a session for Bruce at a dog hydrotherapy pool for Thursday, and I'm really excited as it will be his first 'swimming lesson' and I can go in the water and play with him too! I figured that, as he loves the beach but will only go in the sea up to his belly, having some time in the pool may give him confidence to swim in the sea. I've been warned by the lady that runs the centre that boxers aren't the most graceful though, mainly because they're too busy looking around at what else is going on and forget to swim...! Sounds about right!

I hope Charlie learns to swim. Markus was the same as Charlie. He would go in until the water was up to his belly. Then his back legs would start to lift and he would panic and back up. :( He watched a couple of his favorite toys float away, rather than go get them. :(

Will Charlie be wearing a lifejacket? I think that would help. :)

Wow! That is so exciting, you have to keep us posted on his progress!

I wish we had something like that here! :)

Charlie is actually our cat (which they also treat at the hydro centre!), but it is Bruce who will be swimming; they do use lifejackets, and I'll be taking his favourite beach toys and swim with him, so hopefully he'll get the hang of it!

That is so exciting. I hope Bruce loves it.

But if he does just watch out. My Abby loves to swim and when we are at the beach she chases my husband and the kids (no mater how far they go) It looks pretty funny to watch my DH bring her back on the surfboard. She sits so proud (like I got him mom).

One of my boxers will go after a ball that is meant for the labs at the dog park we go to. She keeps her head straight up which causes her butt to sink, when she points her head forward her butt comes up and she swimms normal. Like you mentioned she's always more interested in whats going around her rather than swimming. She loves the water and I have seen her sink a couple of times because of the way she swims. Most of the other boxer owers are amazed at the way she will bail right in the water.
