Just curious how many of you have boxers that like to (or can at least) swim. If you boxer swims, let me know if it is male or female. I am developing a theory that the females are the swimmers and the males not so much.

My Rocky is appropriately named as he sinks like a rock in water over his head. He likes to wade in up to his chest but no further. My Lucy swims no problem.

Watching the gang at the dog park I have noticed girls swim, boys don't. Is there anything to this or just a coincidence?

My oscar (M) loves to wade but he also sinks like a rock. Diego (M) loves to swim but will only do so with his life jacket. Other wise he has quite a struggle to tread water.

There is an offleash dog park in Mpls Mn at the mississipi river where all the dogs can go swimming. Jake loves it there and he loves to swim. The problem is he can't swim. He does'nt sink but he does'nt swim correctly. At first it was funny watching him swim with his feet out of the water. I thought he would eventually learn (he's now 1) but he has'nt so I'm going to get him a life jacket. He will probably look silly with it on but it's better than losing my boy.

i have found that my girl Nikki is a much more *graceful* (as graceful as a boxer can be in water.. ) than my male in the water. She seems to float better than he does, although he does not sink, w/ the amount of splashing he does to keep a float, you w/ think the pool would be empty after he was done. (and this is w/ a life jacket on  ) Anyways, neither are great swimmers, but Nikki is definately better (and will swim w/out a jacket). i think her size/weight has a lot to do w/ it. :D

Boxers Swimming

No doubt the theory could be correct that females swim more gracefully than males since most times they are much larger and, thus, having the bigger, deeper chests which we have to watch out for when boxers are swimming. My girl does swim when it's necessary to keep up with the other doggies at the dog park. Of course I am kind of on the edge of my sweat hoping she can keep up her strokes while she is out over her head! I heard a great story once of a Rottie that saved another dog that was drowning. He came up to the front of the dog and pushed it out of the water with his chest. That would have been awesome to see. There sure are a lot of brainy dogs out there!

we went to my grandpa's land this weekend (he lives on a farm) right after it had rained and around his pond it was incredibly muddy. my cousin's were throwing mud chunks in the water and silly Asia was going after them! i have seen her swim before but she never got very far from where she couldn't touch but she was out in the middle of the pond just 'a' swimmin away! i wish i had gotten pictures!!

so mark and i have concluded that we have a water dogg :) (and she is female)

Lex, our female, loves to swim and has gotten really good at it. Luke, our male, will only wade out to his chest if the weather is really hot, otherwise water is only for drinking.
