swallowed pig ear.... now what??

oh man, i feel guilty. i've read all these posts about dogs choking/ getting obstructions from rawhides, and it didn't even occur to me that pigs' ears are in the same category.

i gave one to jake tonight. i was reading my book and watching him. he chewed it about halfway down and got it all soft, and gulp, swallowed it.

i'm almost in a panic. i did a search and read that an obstruction will present as trying to vomit and/ or not being able to relieve himself. should i withold food and water? he's sleeping now, but i'd usually give him breakfast tomorrow morning.

i know where there's an emergency vet fairly close by (from when he had kennel cough)- should i jump the gun or wait and see? if he gets an obstruction will it be immediate? please let me know if i'm just worrying myself!! thanks!

what size aprox was the piece that he swallowed?

just keep an eye on him to see if he is having any distress. they sometimes throw it up or it does pass through there stool.

it was a piece probably about 2"X3". i was even going to take it after another minute because i noticed it was getting small...

He will probably (hopefully!) pass it. I would definately keep on eye on him though. Bayleigh has eaten and passed so many things! Tampons, socks, dental floss, a 5 dollar bill and more.
