Update - Part 2

We did not see the same doctor this time. The new one is not sure Beau has a blockage, he thinks he may have some sort of intestinal upset, because he doesn't throw up immediately after eating, he waits several hours. So he gave us prednisone to give him. He also gave us some canned food called i/d. He then told us he found some parasites in what he could get of a stool sample, so he is on something called Flagyl. And to top it all off, he gave him dewormer as well. He said he wanted to cover all bases. We are to take him back if he is not clearly improving by Saturday. At that point they will do surgery.

Now I don't know what to think. The other vet was sure it was a blockage. This one doesn't think so.

I just want my baby better. :(

Does Beau have Giardia or is the vet just covering all bases?

Update

Hello, Beau has not thrown up any more. Also, he had a BIG poo this morning! (nope, nothing in it, I checked :))

The vet said he did not have Giardia, but some other thing that is not as worrisome and resolves very easily. I can't remember the name now.

He has been running outside playing frisbee with DH, it seems like he is on the mend. We are very very relieved and hope it remains that way. We love him very much and it has been awful for all of us.

Thank you so much everyone for your support and encouragement. Hopefully we are almost out of the woods!

Update

Beau is still holding everything down and going poo! Yay!

I am kind of concerned about his peeing and water intake. He is taking (I am not kidding) about 3 - 5 mins to pee in the morning. And he is drinking so much water. A friend told me that being on steroids will make them very thirsty thus causing the peeing. Has anyone else heard that?

Also, he was still kind of thin to begin with, with the "blockage" or whatever was wrong he'd lost 5 lb. He is very very hungry all the time. Any suggestions as to how to fatten him up "the right way"? I added green beans and yogurt to his food tonight. Even when I feed him his normal amount he goes crazy looking for more food in the house. I feel so badly for him. Poor guy.

Thanks again for all your thoughts and support. You guys got us through this!

Yes, the steroids will cause an increase in drinking and urination, but will subside once he is weaned off of them. Glad to hear that he is now on the road to recovery ~ Cathy

Oh no Beau is vomiting again!!!

Well, we thought we were past it, but it is not to be I guess. He vomited all over our living room, thick dark stuff. Our vet is closed, and since he doesn't seem to be in any distress, DH wants to wait to take him back to our regular vet tomorrow ASAP.

They told us if he came back it would mean surgery. :(

Keep our boy in your thoughts please!
