Boxer Pal
Hello,

We live in Chicago where the temperature is starting to climb into the 80's consitently. Some days we'll even see 90's. We keep our 8 month old boxer crated at home during the day, where we do not have air conditioning and in an apartment that gets pretty hot during the summer.

We do have a dog walker come by in the afternoon for a brief walk/visit and we make sure she has plenty of water. We're thinking about getting another bowl where we can freeze water in it overnight and put that in her crate. We thought it would help keep her cooler by licking the ice plus it won't make such a mess. We also leave a fan blowing on her all day long and her crate sits in front of a screen door that stays open all day (second floor).

However, I understand boxer's are not good with extreme temperatures. Should I be concerned for her under these conditions? Are these even bad conditions? What could I do to help the situation? Is what I am currently doing helping much?

I appreciate your thoughts.

Not sure how hot your apartment gets but if it gets up pretty high, I would consider getting a small AC unit to put in the room where your baby is. We gate out 2 babies in the kitchen and have a very high power unit in there. The ice idea sounds like a good one too.
