Greets,

In a few weeks I will be picking up my new Boxer pup! I want to be as prepared as possible for him so I am now looking into what food he should be eating. I've done some research and found some brands of puppy food that are highly rated.

By Nature
Blue Buffalo
Innova
Merrick
Wellness
Orijen

Obviously they are all the puppy version of the food. Aside from one of these brads (once we find which one he likes to eat) what should/could I be feeding him as a treat/snack that would be healthy? At 7 weeks old, would he be too young for eggs? I read on here that they are good for dogs, shell and all. However, I also read that puppies shouldn't have too much calcium.

Can anyone lend some suggestions or insight?

Thanks in advance!

I would highly recommend that you contact the breeder and ask what they will be feeding him, and then slowly transistion over to the new food (75% old food - 25% new, 50% - 50%, 25% - 75%, 100%). Changing food suddenly can cause some not so great side effects, and generally isn't a good thing to do. It took me a few weeks to properly transistion June off of what the breeder was feeding to Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul, which she has done great with.
As for treats, I generally try to stay away from rawhides and I order a lot of their treats from Jeffers Pet, which has a great selection of healthier treats. I have found that plain uncoated Cheerios make a good training aid as well. Good luck with your new addition!
