Suddenly Peeing on the Couch

I have a 9 month old male Boxer named Cassius. Over the last few weeks he has peed on my family room couch while we are making dinner. The odd thing is, he is not allowed on this particular couch ever, and he does this roughly 10 minutes after going to the bathroom outside. He doesn't pee anywhere else in the house and is completley trained otherwise. I first thought he was marking his territory or something, but he is neutered so this doesn't make any sense. There is no evidence of any infection(UTI, etc..) so I am at a loss here. Does anyone have any advice, or have gone through a similar situation?

My Bubba does the same thing!! He's done it 3 times now, and once is was on my dad!( its ok to laugh...i did) I really believe it has somthing to do with the "top dog syndrome" We stopped feeding bubba at the same time we eat, 'cause as you know the top dog eats first. Since we have done this, my Bubba has issues with rules and authority. If he's doing it on a couch you don't want him even to be on.....I think he's trying to push your buttons. My Bubba was a "drop-off" and homeless for a little while. His authority issues I think had somthing to do with the reason he was a "drop-off" Its to bad they didn't want to take the time to train him right. He's not a bad dog, and he's getting better daily. I think you should just watch his behavior ( and your own) and see if you notice around the time you cook if you do anything he might not like. I hope that helped

I read the article at the link you gave...
They only thing that i've noticed about Bubba's accidents is this....he hates to go out in the rain...If He sees thats its raining outside....He'll pee right in front of the door. As said before Bubba was homeless for awhile ..so he's training history is unknown to me. He peed on my father...I don't think my father looks "absorbant", and It wasn't raining at the time that this happened. I did read the part about feeling safe and being near ppl for comfort, but bubba was closer then "near" when he drenched my dad's shirt. Bubba has never been in a crate and has very few accidents. The couple he did have came after restrictions. ( ie: being told no, corrected, or having to wait for scraps till after we are fishished eating.) He is a very loving Dog I don't think he does it to be mean, I think he does it cause he's lived with 3 different families now and feels that the bottom of the pack is not the place he wants to be. The dog needs stablity. he wants to stay in a home for more then 6 months, you know what i mean? I understand that! This dog has been through hell.

It may be submissive urination with Bubba, or excitement urination, or just one of those things .... it's unlikely that this is a 'dominance' thing - generally it's the opposite, even something as simple as him not really understanding housetraining. A great book that can help you deal with Bubba's past and make his future a wonderful one, is 'Culture Clash' by Jean Donaldson - take a look at the books forum for more info.

Here are a couple of articles:

Poor Bubba, it's awful how some dogs are treated - it's great he has a family who love him now.

Thanx, In another topic I posted someone gave me some great ideas. When I first Got Bubba I thought he didn't like me...I know thats not true now...he really is a great dog! he's only a year old, and the longest he's been with one family is 6 months.....Thats got to be rough. he's a good boy.

my only advice would be to make sure you get rid of the scent. Once he can smell his urine in that spot it's alot more likely he will return to the scene in the future. It can be tough to get urine out of a sofa if it has soaked into the cushions.

good luck!!
