Sudden limping?

I think this may be another one that we need to add to the boxer trait list. Harley has pulled the same thing with us on several occassions - worried me sick! Same thing - debating "do we take him to the emergency vet - do we wait ???" Harley would hold his leg up so high as if he was getting ready to go or something but we did the same thing - felt his leg and checked in between his paws - nothing. I figured maybe he got bit on his leg by an ant or something. I have learned at this point to always wait until the next morning as he always wakes up a o.k. - they just love the attention

There is a condition known as Pano, that affects the bones joints.
Normally it is in young growing dogs, but it is a possibility that this dog had or has on occasion pano or pano type symptoms.
Perhaps he suffered from it as a youngster and this is what got him attention?
If hes a rescue he may have had to pull out all the stops to stay inside??
Boxers are pretty shrewed dogs and this boy may be a cunning master at doggie deception!
Even if this boy is bluffing, keep an eye on his joint area and his toes.
Boxers are notorious for hurting or even breaking toes as they leap onto concrete.

Funny that this should come up. My 10 month old male boxer Leo began limping yesterday. When I take him outside the limp goes away. Maybe they are trying to tell us something. Note that this is the same dog in the Help!!!!!!! My dog is eating clothes thread.

Sounds like something to do with the foot. The reason I suggest that is I've got a foot that is very tender as the result of a broken leg almost 40 years ago. When I am barefoot on a hard surface I will limp. On a carpet, or soft surface such as grass I walk without a limp since the soft surface cushions and distributes the weight more evenly on the foot.

Seems that if it were a joint, ankle, knee or hip, that was painful, it would hurt to walk on any surface.

Our first Boxer had a couple of instances where we thought he had injure a leg or foot. He would limp badly. Upon moving that leg and manipulating the paw, he showed no discomfort. But when he stood he would barely touch the floor with his foot. He would lift it when contact was made with the floor then when he relaxed and let it settle, he would lift it again as it touched the floor.

The next morning he was fine. We saw this happen on two or three occasions during his lifetime. It never lasted more than a few hours.

If Winston has been showing these symptoms for a few days, a trip to the vet might be worth it, just in case, and for your peace of mind.

Thanks everybody!

I really appreciate everybody's advice! Fortunately, there hasn't been anything since the last post. I called our vet to cancel the appointment that afternoon and ran everything by her and she suggested that he was trying to get attention and to just keep an eye on him. Well, it's been a couple of days, and no limps in sight!! We are still watching him, but he hasn't even tried it once. So we hope that he was just faking it for attention (because he got a ton of it when he limped, along with a massage!)

To the post about the Pano condition. Would the condition be permanent or just during the growth stages? Also, would he continue to jump and try to Box everything in sight?
