Hi
When my son was 6 he went to the dentist and he needed to be put a sleep to have a tooth took out they checked him over and they said that his heart was skipping a beat so i had to taike him to the hospital and they said everything was fine. That there was no promblem there 4 months ago he came home from school he was 9 then he came home full of beans had his tea wacthed tele in his bedroom i tooked him up for bed and the next morning went to get him up for school and he had passed away at the side of his bed I've not long had the results but they said they can't be sure but the most likely scenario is that it was due to cardiac arrythmia and he could of been born with a heart deffect.I've recently took my dog Bruce to the vets and he said his heart is missing a beat but it's nothing to worry about.

wow im very sorry to hear about your son.. not to sidetrack, but almost the same thing happened to my bf. He was 19 and we were just about to start our Political science final exam and i was tryingto signal to him that he had to use a pen not a pencil..he did what looked like he was rolling his eyes at me, sighed, puthis head on the table..snorted and fell over with no vitals. He had didnt breathe for 16 minutes, cpr wasperformed and when medics got there, he was shocked 7 times with a defibrillator. He wasn't expected to live and tests and tests were run, he had no brain activuty kept seizuring and no onw could figure out what happened. But miraculously he sirvived his memory isnt very good anymore, but hes still the same. After 3 days in ICu he was transferred to the heart instutite and given an implanted defibrillator. I can remeber his second day in ICU when he was awake and i was feeding him jello, the medics came in and were talkin to his nurse..and i heard one say that he would never have told anyone thathe would be up talking the way he was withme...i guess i got my miracle.

A few yrs back I was talking to a boxer owner in a Petco who suddenly lost their boxer who was only about 1, they had put their boy in his crate to go run some errands for a few hrs and when they got home, he was gone.
They did take him to the vet and after the vet did a lil exam, it APPEARED that he may have been bit by something, they were not sure if it was a spider or what but there was a clear indication it was a bite of some sort.
I asked my vet about this and I guess there are spiders or insects that can be very toxic to boxers and animals in general, since then I am very aware of spiders around the yard and house, I treat my yard every year for insects just to be on the safe side because I always remember this ladies story. So every time I hear of a sudden death makes me wonder if it may have been a spider or insect of some sort as well.
None the less it does not make it any easier to loose a boxer child.
I am very sorry for your loss.

I wish you lots of love and I hope you will open your heart again soon to another boxer baby when you are ready.

I am so sorry for your losses. I'm sure your dad and baby are safe together. I lost my first Desaray like that. I went on vacation with my daugther, and when we came home my hubby told me Desaray just laid down, and never woke up. I was devasted, and it almost took me 6 months to be able to accept it. Prayers are coming your way.

Dottie, I am so terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your father and furbaby. Please give my condolences to you and your family. Many of us have had similar experiences (ie I lost both parents and our beloved boxer within a relatively short time) and will be here 24/7 just to listen and/or give you support during this difficult time. Thoughts and prayers are with you and yours ~ Cathy

We had the same thing happen to our year and a half old boxer. He was running around acting silly and just collapsed. He had had issues like this previously but his vet said that he could not detect any problems. I called his breeder and he had no family history of health problems either.

My dad had a boxer who also had episodes such as this throughout his life as well. He lived to be 13 years old.

Sometimes it's just like people. My daughters friends mom went to the doctor because she thought she was coming down with the flu, 5 days later she died. She was just 38. Who knows why things happen. It stinks when it does though.

You and your family are in my prayers. I know how hard it can be to loose a beloved pet and then to have lost a father as well.

I am so very sorry to read of your losses. It brings back memories of the passing of my boxer who was about 7 years of age. Although it has been almost two years, right now, after reading all of these posts it seems like it was just yesterday. It was also sudden and completely unexpected. He still had his puppyish ways and seemed very healthy except for a couple of apparent seizures I had witnessed. I was with him during his last breaths and it was completely overwhelming to try and grasp the concept of him not being around. I never found out what the cause for his death was, but considering the fact that he had seizures prior to his passing, I came to my own conclusion that it may have been neurological. Not that this was the reason for your dogs passing, but I recently read about bloat/torsion in dogs which can kill suddenly and unexpectedly (http://www.kifka.com/Elektrik/Bloat.htm). The syptoms include some of what a previous poster was writing about, dry hacking or attempting to vomit without success. It's scary learning all that's out there that can be potentialy fatal to our boxers. All the more reason to spend each day that we have with our boxers (and all of our other loved ones for that matter) as unforgettable and joyous as possible.
