Boxer Pal
Hi all,
In the past 4 weeks, my best pal, Ralphie, has begun displaying genuine aggression toward one random dog on almost every visit. This is NOT roughousing.
He picks one dog (usually his size or bigger) and goes after it w/ a vengenance. It is always unprovoked, and it is always just one dog per visit, never the same one. Today he went after a Great Dane he has happily played with at least half a dozen times.
I have to jump in and pull him out every time (not the wisest/safest move for me either, I know). After that he is fine, and plays with everyone there as 'doggily' as can be.
He is 18 months, in excellent health and was fixed on the 1st of October, so his testosterone is just about out of his system.
His behaviour and temperment have not changed in any other way. He really is one of the sweetest, friendliest, extroverted dogs around and all of the other owners at the park know him and love him, too. They've said the "party doesn't get started until Ralphie gets here."
Obviously this is some sort of dominance issue rearing its head. But why now? And why so random, going after other dogs that are not displaying any aggression toward him?
Any hints or suggestions?
Thanks so much.
