so, our dog somehow got a very tiny sore on top of his head, we're guessing from his crate during our 18 hour move a few weeks ago. it started tiny, and now it's gotten a bit bigger. it seems that he scratches it open every night, which prevents the scab from forming. we're putting bacitracin on it...is there anything else we should be doing so it doesn't soon cover the whole top of his head? band aids seem a bit tough...!

Try Neosporine (sp?) that's what I've always used for Johhny. But if it doesn't go away you might wanna have the vet look at it just to make sure it's not a fungus.

it actually makes a scab from the liquid bandage. Kona cut her edge of her ear and was bleeding like a stuck pig. I used this stuff and it worked great. Suggest cleaning the area (peroxide, bactine) and than make sure it is real dry before you put it on or it won't stick. after it drys put on another thin layer and let it dry. it is like real tough nailpolish. Check it everyday and add another layer if it looks like it is coming loose. eventually it will fall off on its own.

I would put an e-collar on here so that she can't scratch it. You would probably only have to do it for a few days. :)

If it is getting bigger perhaps you should take her to the vet to be sure it's not mange;) err on the side of caution...

mange? no way. what does that start by looking like? if this little puppy of ours gets mange i'm gonna go crazy! he has more health issues...oh the lessons learned about backyard breeding.

When Bella had it I thought Bubba had played too hard and scratched her head, we were already at the vet for shots and the vet tech noticed it and asked about it, he said he too thought rough play but to watch it for a couple of days and sure enough it got worse, started looking bigger and losing hair I called them back and took her right in, they scraped it and sure enough mange--she already had several health issues so while building up her immune system we had her dipped..good luck...

i was looking online briefly about mange, and a few sites said it occured in puppies. riley is 19 months, and has never had anything close to this. is that right information? i cleaned it good and put a liquid band aid on it today. it looks great right now. i see it getting worse when our other psycho puppy licks it to death, thinks she's taking care of him:) i hope this works and it's just a scab, but i will keep a close eye on it.
