This has happened twice now. I have been asked "What KIND of boxer is she--American Boxer? I actually almost got into an argument with a friend when I told her that there is only one kind of Boxer. She said "Oh no, there is such thing as an American Boxer!" When I told her that according to AKC there is only one type of Boxer. To the other person I just said she's a fawn.

"Is that a brindle?" "Yeah, she's a brindle boxer" "Oh so she's mixed." Noooo....brindle means...

This topic has been discussed before, and from what I understand is that the so called "American Boxer" is more of a difference in the preference of body types in the American show ring compared to the European show ring.

The American Boxer tends to be taller and slimmer with a proportionately smaller head, while the European Boxer is stockier with a proportionately larger head.

That being said, it is also said that champions from either area would likely do well in the other arena.

While there are references made to the American Boxer and the European Boxer, they are the same dogs. Any slight variations in the standards accounts for the different builds, not because they are distinctly different breeds.

Hope I got it right. If not there are others who will correct, or clarify.

I got in the same discussion with someone, asking my what type of boxer I had. A boxer is a boxer is a boxer...

I *think* people confuse boxers with bulldogs. Of course there are American Bulldogs and English Bulldogs (very different dogs). And then Bull Terrier, Bull Mastiff -- people just get confused.

I believe Thomas is right, but I doubt the people who make such comments are referring to any slight difference in European v. American boxers. I've found the people who make these comments usually just aren't very familar with dog breeds. ;)

Diesel's parents are the same age. I was told the male is an American Boxer and the female is a German boxer. The male weighs 55 lbs & the female weighs 80 lbs. I saw them both and the female was considerably taller than the male.

Being English, I was asked if Mason was an English Boxer - I replied "yes, he barks with an accent!" - ask a stupid question.....

I also get people telling me they've never seen a boxer with his coloring, so I tell them he's a brindle - oh, I've not heard of that mix, they reply!!smashicon

The quote "the more I know people, the more I love my dog" is always so appropriate:D
