Hi, my 4 & a half month old Female Boxer Piper has developed some strange symptoms within the last 18 hours. I first noticed yesterday her left lip jowl was swollen 2x its normal size. I had just taken her to the vet last week for her last series of shots, and also because she had eaten some mud, which caused vomiting and diarrhea. The vet did a fecal test, negative for parvo, and said she had a paramecium bacterial infection. After antibiotics, vomiting, and stool meds, she recovered completely within about 36 hours. Back to the current problem, (I haven't returned to the vet because I'm broke until payday, and Piper seems unaffected by the new symptoms). Today when I got up, her lip is no longer swollen, but she has bulbous swelling in strange places, now over her left eye, and her normally smooth coat has bumps and circles about the size of a quarter all over. She is breathing and acting normally, and not complaining of pain or itching when the ?hives? are touched, so I'm not too concerned yet. They appear to come and go, and move around her body every hour or so. Does anyone know what this could be? I'm thinking either a reaction to the meds, which she's still completing, or an envenomation, or an allergic reaction. Any suggestions on what to do next? Thanks, Dalton (reply here, or my mailbox, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

I agree it sound like an allergic reaction. My female had a reaction to albon (an antibiotic w/ sulfur in it) when she was about 12 weeks. Her symptoms were one swollen eye which went away after we applied some ice to the eye but then the next morning her other eye was swollen. We discontinued the meds and the reaction stopped. Our vet ended up prescribing a different antibiotic and the symptoms never returned.

BTW you can’t post personal email address on this board it’s against the rules

Thanks for the input guys, and by the way, I didn't know about the email thing; my wife set the site up. Sorry! I took you advice, called the vet, and she recommended 25 mg. of benadryl. I fed it to Piper in a peice of macaroni, and about 20 min. later, the hives completely disappeared! Thanks again~
