I had a friend who owns Rotties to tell me that I shouldn't allow my boxer baby to straddle because it is a sign of dominance. It made perfect sense to me, but I have read several posts on here where people find it completely okay. Can someone help me with this?

My Napoleon does this if I sit in the floor. I have also been told it is a dominance thing. I believe it is too. If Napoleon does it and I get up, he will follow me around and kinda lean on me and push. I have been told not to sit in the floor. When he does this, I will get up immediately and get in a chair and ignore him. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't.

Patience is the key!

Good Luck

Thanks for the confirmation on that. Unfortunately it hasn't been something that we have been consistent about working with her on (she's 7 mos). But I guess if that is the worst problem we have with her then I don't guess it's so bad!!!! Actually we couldn't ask for a better "best friend" for my 3 year old daughter.

does she do this to your daughter?

I would not leave them unattended if she does, especially if it is a dominant issue, she could nip at her like alpha dogs do. She probably wouldn't mean to hurt her but that is how dominate dogs dicipline the other dogs.

There were a couple of times months ago when Isabella was laying on the floor Sitka would stand over her, but we put a stop to that very quickly. She mainly does the straddle thing with me. Every now and then she will attempt to straddle my husband's leg, but he won't tolerate it at all. I'm the only one in the crowd that she has really been allowed to do this too..... BAD MOMMY!!! LOL (Just for the record.... I am one of those that won't say bad girl to my daughter, so therefore we don't say it to the dog either)
