Storm is having her eye removed

After two years of vets & specialist not knowing why Storm's eye was often cloudy a decision to remove it has been made. Her right eye became inflamed last week and blue (which now turns out to be blood behind the lens). I took her back to her eye specialist and this morning he said she has glimacoma (sp?) which will not clear up with treatment and because the underlying problem isn't able to be found, it is best for her to take the eye out.

She is in absolute high spirits as always but i'm a shaking mess! I don't care about having a one eyed dog - I had a one eyed horse once! I'm just sad she has to go through surgery and that part of her best asset is going to be taken away - No more two eyed loving looks from her I guess - I'm sure she will pull it off with one still! It is happening tomorrow so I hope that everything goes well. I'm stressing about her going under but my vet is very aware of all the Boxer requirements (no ACE etc). One good thing is the specialist is sure she hasn't had any vision in that eye for a long time maybe ever so after she recovers she won't know anything has happened and won't have to get used to life with one eye. When I think about it that makes her even more amazing as you would never know that she is blind in one eye apart from the occassional bump into a wall/door - I put that down to her being a boxer clown!

Wow, Ang I can't believe you and Storm are going through this. How awful! I would be a mess too. I can't imagine. Storm will be alright and she will still be your Perfect Storm. Please keep us posted...

I hope the surgery went well and your sweet storm has a speedy recovery. This can't be an easy thing for you to do, just know we are all here for you! I got goosebumps just reading this! What a brave baby girl!! I'm sure it will all be fine and afterwards you'll be able to think how silly you looked all nervous.

Boxers don't give up easily.. they're strong babies and will fight to the last. One day at the vet we were thrilled to see a boxer girl - but then her owner told us how she'd been poisoned .. TWICE. Once when she was a puppy and then a few weeks before we met them. Burglars here will poison a dog to get them out the way to break into a house. This poor boxer girl had numerous blood transfusions and they spent over R10,000 trying to save her.

I guess what i'm saying is that boxers don't just give up. They easily work through even the most difficult things! Tati and Radar send Storm slobbery kisses and we all send healing vibes. She'll be fine. And so will you!

She'll be okay! I used to have a German Shepherd that had only 1 eye. She was absolutely one of the coolest dogs I ever had! After having it removed, she was depressed for a couple weeks. She literally did nothing but lay in her bed.

Then after that, she was up and back to her old self. She got along just fine, but she couldn't catch a ball if it was thrown from the wrong side.

Just imagine seeing ALL of her love in just ONE eye instead of two! That will be awesome!
