Super Boxer
Molley is the second Boxer puppy we've had in the last 2+ years so we pretty much knew what to expect from her. We've been very successful in stopping (redirecting) unwanted behaviour such as jumping, nipping, and so on. However, she does something that Carley NEVER did and we can't get her to stop it. She barks at us! She doesn't bark at anyone else, just me and DH. It always seems so random too. We realize that she's only trying to initiate play but it's usually not appropriate. She's our only 'child' and gets plenty of attention. We rotate her toys so she doesn't get bored with them. We've started taking her for walks now that she's had all of her shots. We believe that 'play time' should be initiated by us and we play and do short training sessions several times a day. It's usually startling because I'll be walking by with a basket of laundry or something and she'll just jump in front of me and start barking at me and jumping up and down in front of me like she has springs on her feet. I've tried standing still and ignoring her and she just keeps doing it, jumping all around me. If I walk away, she gives chase, gets in front of me and keeps doing it. I tell her 'no bark' in a stern voice, I've even held her little muzzle closed and told her 'no bark' just in case she doesn't know what I mean. I've tried to redirect her by giving her one of her toys but she just follows me, pushing the toy into the back of my legs or if I'm sitting down, she'll put the toy in my lap and stand there and bark. I've made her sit and as soon as she does and I go about my business, she starts up again. When she does it to DH, he just tells her 'knock it off!" but that doesn't stop her either.
It really bothers me when she does this outside because I'm sure that like us, our neighbors don't appreciate the sound of the constant barking. She sits at the gate sometimes and when people or dogs walk by, she just stands up and wags her little nub. She never barks at them! Any suggestions?
