Zaks' neutering stitches have turned nasty because he licked them. He has an elizabethan collar on now but the damage has been done and he's in a lot of pain. The wound is weeping and no vets are around. Tomorrow is Christmas day for us and all I get is answerphones. Is there anything I might have around the house that could help? Remember I live in New Zealand.
I was concerned enough to take him to the vet nurse this afternoon and she thought it was okay then. That's when he got the collar. Since then it's really got bad. Has anyone been in the same position?

New Zealand is not a third world country or some sort of backwater, thank you.

You can put some antiseptic powder on it, which will help dry things up a little as well as keep it free of bugs. If you don't have any, an antiseptic cream will do fine (eg. Dettol or Savlon).
