My Male is 3 years old and is ears smell pretty bad . I really smell them when he jumps up on my bed, and puts his head on my pillow to go to sleep. I tried to clean them with a q tip. He doesnt seem to mind much, but in a couple days the smell is back. Anyone have any suggestions how to take care of this.

Cody also used to have really bad smelling ears. Is he rubbing and shaking his head a lot?

I had to take him to the vet every couple of months because of ear infections. The vet said he had chronic ear infections. But when I looked in his ears I could see dark ear junk, can you see anything? The vet gave us a greasy type medicine to apply for a week and then we would take him back and he would flush his ears with drying solution.

My vet said never to put anything in their ears, especially q-tips, because their ear drums can be damaged.

I agree with Cody and Duke you can use cotton swabs but not qtips. Also I would contact your vet and get the Epi-Otic it is great cleans the ears and then has a drying agent. It retails for about 14 dollars for 16 ounces. I clean Max's ears about every two weeks and he hasn't had problems since I have started using it. Also make sure he doesn't have mites. You need to clean the ears before applying mite medication. Good luck.

Cody has minor ear smell but what I just started doing today is placing a solution in his ears, I just got it from the store today. When I placed a few drops in his ear he went nuts and jumped away, so he didn't really like it. The solution seems to be of an alcohol and water base. It says to use it 2-3 times a week I will probably use it once.
I guess he has natural ears? They seem to smell more because the lack of air.

You might want to go to the vet and make sure its not a yeast infection. My one boxers ears smelled terrible and they really didn't bother him that much but he did scratch a lot and we found out it was a yeast infection.

Today I took Tyson to the vet. He said Tys ears are fine. There is just a little wax build - up and said that is normal with natural ears. He gave me a bottle of an ear flush, and said to use it once a week and that should take care of the odor and the wax. I was kind of worried that he might have mites or a yeast infection. I am so glad that it is just wax build - up!!! Thanks everyone for you help and suggestions. We really appreciate.

My pup had one ear that was really stinky, I mean I could clean this ear every other day and it would be dirty! He didn't really scatch his ears, but he ended up having ear-mytes that was treated with meds.
Hope this helps!
