Stiff and limping

Longtime since I posted and over the years have found invaluable help from this site.
I have a beautiful 4 year old flashy fawn boxer named "Dempsey" she is a total wiggler and very energetic. She goes to my parents house everyday to play with their 7 dogs (and her Brother) I have noticed latley that in the mornings or after she has been laying down when gets up she walks with a bad limp, she is not in any pain and seems to walk it off? I have had boxers for years and have never seen this. Is she over excercised or can this be hip problems? any help or insight would be appreciated

My 13yr old doesn't have hip problems, but does have a tendency to get a little stiff and sore after exercise and in the mornings. He's greatly immproved since I've been giving him glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM. Have you ever had your furbabies hips checked? Hope she feels better soon ~ Cathy

With a boxer limping badly and showing stiffness at only four years old , I would be inclined to suspect hip dysplasia. You need to have hip x-rays taken to find that out though.

Hip dysplasia is an inherited defect, but can also be partially due to environmental factors such as overnutrition, excessively rapid growth, and prolonged exercise or trauma during the growth period.

I would definately suggest a visit to the vet, and maybe someone who specializes in hips/knees to see if they can identify the problem.
It sounds very similiar to the symptoms my boxer, Shaka, had - torn ligaments in his knee. He actually torn the ligaments in both back knees and had to have surgeries on both knees, and then a year later he tore one again and had to have surgery again. Of course, by now I am not a big fan of surgery since it doesn't seem to work very well - but there are other options (there are some new surgical options available now).

Best thing would be to see a vet/specialist who can help identify the problem.

Bubba's almost 7, he limps whenever he gets up after laying down for long periods. We took him to the vet, they examined him & took some Xrays. His hips are fine, but he has arthritis from an old injury to his right front leg. I've started him on a glucosomine/chondroitin supplement afte the OK from the vet, and he seems to be getting better.
