Hi,

I just started homecooking on Tuesday. I've been giving her lean ground beef and rice, supplemented with bone meal. I'm giving her this for breakfast and giving her kibble for supper as I'm trying to transition her slowly without too much upset. She was fine on Tuesday and Wednesday, but since then her tummy has been upset and she's had diarehha. How long does it take to adjust? Should I keep going with this and believe that she is going to settle or is it possible that she just can't tolerate and I should put her back on kibble?

Thanks,

Maggie

What were the ingredients in the kibble? Was it beef or chicken? Did it have rice in it? I know when I started homecooking I couldn't use rice because my girl had an allergy to it and it caused diarrhea. What about using sweet potato instead of the rice? Or using chicken instead of beef?

She's eating Royal Canin HP. It is rice based and the protein is soy. She's always been sensitive when it comes to changing her diet. My vet gave me the recipe for this and said it's generally well tolerate by dogs. I did expect it would upset her, but I'm not sure for how long I should let her go like this.

I would cut out the kibble altogether and ditto trying sweet potato. My dog has a really sensitive stomach, and rice always gave her diahrrhea, as did kibble. We only give her sweet potato now and no grains. Your dog's stomach might be having trouble digesting two different types of food in a day if they have a sensitive stomach.
