Completely Boxer Crazy
Hi All,

Our Nikki has always been non-alpha. Ever since we first started taking her to dog parks, if there was an aggressive dog or a confrontation between 2 alpha dogs, she would always stay far away from the commotion. Well, at the dog park the other week, when Nikki went up to one of the dogs to initiate play, the other dog turned out to be a little aggressive to other females so she snapped & barked at Nikki. :( Surprisingly, Nikki barked back & actually stood her ground until all the Dog Moms & Dads came over to get their dogs away from the commotion. Also, at the pet store the other day, we were in one of the aisles trying on different collars when another couple came walking with their small Benji-looking dog. Nikki, as always, initiates the greeting and guess what? The small dog snapped & totally had a fit because Nikki put her nose right onto his. Well, the same thing happened... Nikki was taken aback, but a few seconds later she also barked back & stood her ground. Nikki is nearing 4 years old. Is this change in her something that's normal in Boxer females? We're not overly concerned about it because it doesn't seem like she's out to start fights with other dogs. She just seems to be saying "hey now, calm down, I was just saying hi", hehe. Anyways, thanks in advance for your input. :)

Boxer Pal
It's funny that you brought this up. Maya who is now 1 1/2 years old is also a very passive female and stays away from larger more aggressive males, in the dog park. About a month ago this male Rhodesian Ridgeback was really pestering her and after about 10 minutes she charged out of her hiding place and went after him. i WAS ABLE TO PULL HER BACK BUT SHE WAS DEFINITELY READY TO GO AFTER HIM.
