My Bosco stands over me when I am watching tv if lying in bed, if I am not petting him, he will win, and paw at me. Other than tell me he wants attention, is there any reason why he would just stand right over me?

Standing over you...

He definately wants something. Monte ususally will do this to play, but also for other needs like, 'to go outside' or 'I'm hungry'... Most of the time though, (unlike humans) he's just too bright to find TV anything but boring...so you basically have a 'bored Boxer' syndrom going on.

Astro would try this everytime we would lay on the floor. I was told this is a dominance and to push him off whenever he does this.

Everything I have read says that pawing, nudging, whining, and generally being pushy is not a good thing and it can actually lead to dominance issues. It is essentially the dog "bullying" you into doing what they want, when they want it, and as the leader you are supposed to be the one to initiate, and end, play time. Although it is very hard to resist a playful Boxer..... When Cooper tries to nudge me I ignore him, or leave the room so he realizes there is no desireable outcome from his pushy behavior.

Abby tries this with me and I am almost certain it is a sign of dominance. Abby is constantly trying to run the show. If I am having an exceptionally fun time with another dog she will TRY to stand over me, as if to tell the other dog I belong to her. I never allow it but in5 years she hasn't stoped trying.

I can tell you that my parents' Boxer, Brutis angelicon, used to stand over his Boxer sister and over us (I tried not to let him, but at 90lbs, it was difficult), it was clearly a dominating behavior. Mindy occassionally does the standing over thing, and honestly, I can't tell if it is a dominating behavior or not, but just to be certain, I don't allow her to do it, I always either get off the floor or make her get down. In general, I do not allow her to be pushy. Brutis ruled my parents' house and it got bad at times, including beating up on the other dogs and growling at my mom and grandmother. I will never ever allow any dog I own to do that, so if I ever find myself wondering if an action is a portrayal of domiance, I just treat that action as if it really is. I am boss, that is the law in our house, period.

Roxy stands over me if I am laying on the floor, but she wants her tummy rubbed! I just say "rubbertummy" and rub it for a couple of minutes and she is happy and leaves.

Wow, I didn't know it was a sign of domiance. Aasha does this occaisonly, but I make him get off, because like what was said, it's not comfotable. I will be sure to his pushyiness.

He usually does it if I am paying attention more to something else, or Guinness, but Guinness does the same thing, or if I am petting Bosco, Guinness will sit back and bark at me until I stop petting Bosco, they are both "Daddy's dogs" but do not show dominance in a mean/negative way. If I push Bosco away I usually get the ewak woo woo chewbacka whine from him!

mine will sometimes do this, and with either one, they usually want to be pet. i know that u shouldn't give in, and should tell them to move...and we will, sometimes...but if i get the feeling that its dominant behavior, i automatically tell them to "off" and sit or lie down.

as for the walking over u in bed, i trained Tyler, who i raised from 9 weeks, to never step on us. he actually will feel for ur legs before he walks over the bed (it's so cute!). Tyson, who we adopted, we have had a harder time with, but i find that overreacting and saying "OWW!" works well, and then making him get off the bed for a a lil bit.
