About 3 months ago Charlie had a rash on his face. He was given a Prednisolone Acetate injection and was on Benadryl for 2 weeks. The rash went away, but then he got on bump on his lip. Which has turned into a pretty big wart/mole cauliflower looking thing. In the past week it has started to spread down his neck and onto his front legs. We did take him to the vet and she just said it should go away in a couple of weeks. Probably just warts. They are contagious, one of his play mates just started to get one on her lip also. So she didn't think it was cancerous. Just looking for opinions before I take him to see a dermotologist if I can find one next week. Here are a couple pics. Hope they work.

sounds like it may be Canine Papoloma virus. Seen more in younger dogs because their immune system isn't fully developed. How old is Charlie? Not sure exactly how it is treated though. I have heard of some pretty bad cases of it though that can completely cover the inside of their mouths and jowles. Would hate to see it get to that!! Give your Vet a shout and he/she should be able to get it under control.

Thanks. He is just over a year old. We had him at the vet before it started to spread. She said it may just fall off on its own. Then it started spreading and to another dog. Now we have another appointment Saturday. Hope she can do something. She did say she can cut them off, but would rather not put him to sleep if possible. Time will tell i guess.

Did the vet give you a diagnosis?

Hi,

My 11 month old just develpoed a similar bump on her lip. Did the vet give you a diagnosis? We're going to take her in on Friday but I wondered what your vet told you. Our puppy had a bout of scabby rashes about 3 months ago and they went away with two rounds of antibiotics. I wonder if the two are connnected?

Thanks,

Yup those are warts and they do go away. Gauge got a bunch of them from my sisters dog. Although they are ugly they do go away.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Do you know if there is anything natural that we can put on it to help it go away?

Thanks!

Canine Papoloma and L-Lysine

I just got done with a bout of that...I read multiple articles and spoke to a few vets about it. It is VERY common. I used L-Lysine from GNC (500mg a day) after doing a ton of research....it was gone in 4 days. It is common in young dogs whose immune system has not fully developed. It is harmless for the most part, unless it spreads really bad and causes issues with eating. It is not contagious to humans, but it is to other dogs, so keep him away until it is completely gone. DO NOT HAVE A VET CUT IT OFF....that is pointless.

Good Luck, that thing was SOOOO GROSS!!!!! I am so happy it is gone.

Both my boxers got these warts a while ago. What I was told to do was put on tea tree oil three times a day. The warts were gone in about a week and didnt spread after. this was truly my savior. Eventually they start looking like they are bleeding around the wart and the surface and start healing.

All this info is good to hear! My dog had a bump/wart on her lip about a month or so ago. I watched it and it did grow to about the size of a pea. I took her to the vet and he wanted to take it off and did. He did give me the option of having it sent to the lab, so I figured it wasnt serious. I didnt have it looked at.
I noticed this wk it is coming back in the same place. I was debating on taking her back in, but reading the info here and seeing the pictures I think I can just watch it.
Thanks again!
