Hi All,

Our beautiful and once energetic 4yr old boxer Bailey has somehow hurt his lumbar spine.

We have been to the vet for the last 4 weeks and the vet has x-rayed the area and has seen no fractures. There was a slight compression of the spine but the vet didn't think this was the major cause of the problem. Bailey has been on anti-inflammatory tablets for nearly 4 weeks. Bailey has also received a weekly glucosamine injection from the vet for the last 3 weeks.

Neither of these treatments seem to be working. Bailey is in pain, he is suffering from lethargy, abnormal walking, lameness & has an abnormal appearance of the spine.

The vet is proposing an MRI scan next. Is this the next best option? Would a chiropractor be the logical next step? We are really worried.

Hope to get some advice soon.
Thanks.

I'd be heading to an orthopedic vet and quite possibly for the MRI.
Chiro's are worth their weight in gold however a good one won't touch a dog with a description as the one you have given. Manipulations could very easily cause more harm than good depending on the severity of the condition.
Finding out WHAT the actual problem is would be my first priority. Then you know what you are dealing with and how best to treat.

I would be going for the MRI. Expensive, but worth every cent. Let us know how it turns out, hoping for the best.
