There is nothing wrong with giving them people food, especially as treats. As long as it doesn't come from your plate on the table, they are not going to know that it is people food!

Kong Stuffers

When I bought the Kong treats, PB flavored, shaped like little snow men or Mini Kongs, the box had a brochure in it with instructions, and recipes for the Kong, realllly coool.....my hubby thinks I am getting carried away! 8)

Any particular type of peanut butter (crunchy, creamy, Jiff, peter Pan) or yogurt (I'm guessing plain?) that you recommend?

I use crunchy peanut butter and plain low-fat organic yogurt. Cottage cheese is a good choice, too.

Mabel is right now slurping away on a frozen yogurt/peanut butter/banana concoction. One hour and counting. I don't know who loves that Kong thing more, me or Mabel. ;)

Cleaning?

And how do you clean it? Wouldn't it get all moldy after awhile? Also, does the food you put in there get on the carpet & furniture?

Toss it in the dishwasher (but take out before dry cycle), or just wash it out using a bottle brush. Just be sure to rinse it out good. I give kongs only when they are in their crates, keeps the mess, if any, inside and I can toss the blankets into the washer when needed.

Hope you don't mind I figured I'd add some of my own:

1) Natural Peanut Butter (obviously)

2) Baked Chicken mixed with a tablespoon of ACV & plain white rice (with or withour cottage cheese)

3) Plain low fat yogurt with small peices of boiled carrot's, apple's, watermelon, or dry kibble.

4) Plain oatmeal (mixed with sugar free apple sauce for flavor) & banana chunks.

5) Lean cooked Ground Beef, (can be mixed with rice, veggie's, oatmeal, yogurt, or kiddle).

6) Ham or Bacon & low fat cheese cubes.

7) Natural/Organic Popcorn

Frozen Treats:

1) Sugar Free Vanilla Ice Cream (or Frosty Paws) sealed in with a small bit of Natural Peanut Butter

2) Low Sodium Chicken Broth mixed with dry kibble.

3) Sugar free apple juice with apple chunks.

Many of these are alot less messy than they sound, & the dogs LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it... My guys got Oatmeal & banana's tonight & stayed busy for nearly 2 hours before falling asleep.

Enjoy!!

Forgot to add.. The rubber used to make Kong's has pores, were dishwashing detergents/soaps can become trapped, & they can be toxic to your dog (s).

The safest (& most sanitary way) to clean plastic & rubber toys in to boil them in plain water. Cloth toys, ropes, etc should be replaced yearly.
Glass or Stainless Steele bowls are safest against bacteria, & the safest way to clean bowls in general is with warm water & plain white vinegar.
