Spidey's Health problem sound familiar??

Twice now spidey has collapsed (once after running after another pup for about 5 mins, and once just sorta walkin around) each time he sorta falls on his side and loses control of bodily functions.
needless to say we rushed him to the vet both times
the 1st time the vet said "it was possible he ran himself to exhaustion") but after the 2nd time the vet decided to run some tests but after bloodwork, cat scan, fecal tests(recently started to have a little blood when pooping) and another test(I've forgotten) everything has been negative and the vet wants to run 2 more biopsys(sp?) my bill is getting quite HUGE and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this or has any advice?

Has your vet checked his heart? If not, that's what I would be doing next.
I know what it's like to run to the vet for this and that. Not to mention the bills. Then the not finding out a thing. It's frustrating, hang in there. Hope you figure out what's wrong with your baby.

I agree...have his heart checked asap. You can do a search on hearts for more info.

Our vet charged $25 to do two auscultations. This will at least get you started...if no murmur is found and he continues to collapse, I'd see a cardiologist just to be on the safe side. Let us know what you find out.

Lacy had several near fainting episodes. She didn't lose control of her bodily functions, but she stopped in her tracks, laid down, her gums turned white, she didn't want to move, and you could tell she was distressed. It seemed when it happened, it was always in the back yard, so she was running around. My vet ran many tests, but felt for certain she was having heart problems. He referred us to a cardiologist, where we had an echocardiogram and a holter monitor done. Everything checked out fine with her heart. We were pretty much at the end of our rope.... didn't know what to look at next (she had blood tests, x-rays, EKG's, the echo and the holter monitor). So we decided to wait and see what happens. We were never able to figure out was wrong or why this was happening to her, but thank goodness, it hasn't happened for a long time (KNOCK WOOD)! For your peace of mind, you may want to check out Spidey's heart. It's very frustrating not knowing what's going on or when it will happen again... but hang in there!

I just finished talking to tina again (she gets the unhappy job of having to take spidey to most of his vet appointments.
The tests we've done so far is a simple fecal matter, Bile Acid test,
EKG(not the halter EKG),Ultra sound, and now this afternoon he's gonna do 2 different biopsys(sp?) and the only thing the vet has come up with is he has a small liver ("not freakishly small but small" - those were the vets exact words) it's just frustrating not to mention a drain on fundage we don't really have:(

I've got to say it sounds more like a seizure than a fainting episode. I don't believe the fainting usually causes the loss of bodily function. Have they done tests for epilepsy? (I don't know what tests are done for this) There are plenty of other problems that might also cause a seizure E.G. heat exhaustion. I wish I had more info for you. To be on the safe side you might want to run the holter test to weed out heart problems.If you do a search on "holter test" at BW you will find some less expensive options for getting the holter and having the tapes read.

Will the vet let you make payments, sometimes they will.
I'm usually able to do that. I try to pay it off if possible, one less bill out of my way.

Its always really worrying when our babies have something wrong and we dont know what is is!! This sounds VERY similar to what happened to a puppy of mine at 5 months old. I'd be very interested to e-mail privately with you if you like. I had bloodtests and heart tests and all were clear. has your vet checked the soft palate? Sometimes if they have an elogated softpalate (part of the roof of the mouth) it can sag when they're excercising and case faints and the like. Thats one thing we looked into. We'd have a total collapse sometimes after only a minute of exercise, its pretty scary.

What may give you some peace of mine is that mine is now and adult and after a couple of months we never had a problem again and she'd cleared all her tests.

Other things to consider could be hormonal fluctuations & poisoning. Maybe someone in your neighbourhood has been fumigating or something? Low levels of general toxins could do it, enough to show under exercise but not normally or in blood tests.
