Hi,
Sorry I have not posted in a while, It's just been so hectic because of christmas, work and d.i.y around the house.

I just have a couple of questions really
1. If I was getting my bitch spayed will it stump her growth?
2. How much does it cost ?

I had a quote from the local vets it was £70 Local Anesthetic
and over £70 for the operation which totals between £140 - £180

Any information
would be of help.

Thanks
Graham

Spaying and/or neutering does NOT stunt growth. In fact, most of what you've heard about the dog changing after being "fixed" is myth. Both my girls are spayed, one at 6 mo. and one at 2 years old, and both are exactly the same as they were before. Maggie (spayed at 6 mo.) has grown and grown and is still growing. And she's the same little evilicon she has always been!

That is good to here the vet said it would stump growth that's why I asked people who know.

Thanks

We have always had our females spayed at 6 months ... It has never, ever affected their growth or behaviour.

Why would a vet tell you it would? I find that odd:confused:

I don't know if this is an option in the UK, but here in the US, many humane societies offer spay/neuter vouchers that certain vets will accept to discount the procedure in an effort to encourage people to spay or neuter their pets. Maybe there is a similar program where you are.

Thanks for all the replies
Discounts in the UK
We pay over the odds for everything especially for Pet care, Cars, fags and booze.

But I will have a look around for discounts
I did say to the vet at the time why is it so expensive he said it's not for smaller dogs it's because Macey is quite big it well take a lot of Local Anesthetic to knock her out.

Thanks

Lexi was also spayed and did not affect her growth. She is still the same devil as well ;) We do have many low cost spay/neuter options here in the States, hopefully you can find one in your area as well. Best of luck!

I am concerned by your vet and his information (or should I say misinformation). If it were me, I would find another vet ASAP.

Contact any local dog or breed clubs in your area and find out if there are some good resources for discounts on spaying/neutering. Also get some recommendations for a GOOD vet.

The trouble is there are only two vets that are close to me one is the one I am talking about and the other is about twice as expensive.

But I will see if we have a local club and then contact them.

Thanks

Jasmine is getting spayed tomorrow morning!!! I am nervous for her. I think it is the best thing for her. She is six months old now and my vet says it will not stunt her growth. It will cost me $60.00 which is very reasonable for the area I live in. I love my vet and she loves my two boxers so I know she will do a good job.
