thanks for all the replies i recieved, about woody. Good news is that for 3 days he has not had any seisures however vet said this does not mean anything, even though i cant help thinking its a good sign.
Today is the big day as this evening he is having his spinal tap and his MRI. I was just wondering if any ones boxer has gone through this. and what is was like. the proceedure does not sound nice and i have been warned that on the spinal tap there can be complications.. Has anyone had any of these, i heard there can be paralisis, etc. I guess tommorow we will know if he has a brain tumor... fingers crossed that he is healthy...
thanks

Trish,
I, too had an older guy with seizures problems. He had epilepsey and had only a very few seizures in his younger days but once he hit 11 years of age, they really became a problem. We were able to control them for the most part after a great deal of trial and error doseages of phenobarbitol. I do hope Woody has developed this condition and not a brain tumor. I will keep both of you in my prayers. Please know I am thinking of you. djk

My 9 month old Boxer pup, Murphy, just had a spinal tap yesterday. No complications, however, they do think he has meningitis but we won't know for sure until all of his blood work and cultures come back. They put Murphy under anestesia and anytime they do that there is a risk, that goes for us 2 legged creatures too. The procedure itself went just fine and I THANK MY HIGHER POWER ABOVE that he came through just beautifully and he is so much better today than he was even yesterday at noon. Good luck with your baby, my prayers are with you both!

How is Woody doing?

Trish,

I was very sorry to read about Woody's seizures. My 8 year old boy Bacchus started having seizures suddenly last summer and had an MRI and spinal tap. The spinal tap showed no evidence of infection but unfortunately the MRI showed a brain tumor. I sincerely hope that Woody's MRI didn't show a brain tumor. If it did, don't give up hope yet. Though we felt it wouldn't be fair to put our older guy through brain surgery we have been able to get him on various medications which are working very well for him right now. He is a happy boy and having a fine old time with us. We are just loving him as much as we can as long as we can. The medications are chemo, steroids and anticonvulsants and while they won't cure him, our goal is to try to extend his life as long as he is himself and is not suffering. So far we've been able to attain that goal.

Again, I sincerely hope Woody's MRI and spinal tap were normal and that he has remained seizure-free. Just wanted to tell you that should the worst happen and a tumor be diagnosed, you may still have a number of viable options like we have had with Bacchus. Wishing you and your boy many good thoughts.

Sincerely,
Wendy

woodys results

well woody had been home for about 6 days now, and we have had nothing since the original fits. Yesterday he went for his check up, and the MRI showed a small tumor 2.5 cm under his brain, which cannot be operated on. The options are Chemo. which costs 600 pounds/$1000 per session and at his age it would be awful on him. At the moment he is on Prednisolone which is controlling the growth and the fits. they say that he could of had this for years and also means we might be able to still have him for a while without him being affected. He is being himself, and shows no signs of what happened to be affecting him. I just hope that its not hurting him and that we can continue to care for him without him affecting him.
Thank you for your thoughts every one .

Trish-

I am so sorry about the bad news. Hopefully, like you said, Woody will continue to live a long and happy life, unaffected by this tumor.

At least you know what you're dealing with and can take the necessary steps to keep Woody comfortable.

Hang in there!

I am so sorry to hear your news Trish & Woody.

I just wanted you to know that you both are in my prayers and I hope for a long healthy life for Woody.

I am experiencing the same with our Brutus. She was diagnoised with three tumors and are treating her the same as you are for Woody. So I understand your pain and just hope that we all have "just one more day" of fun with our furry babies.

Good Health wishes to Woody!!!

Beth
