Our pup, Champ, had to go to the vet on Monday because he had torn up his toenail. They put him under, took off the upper part of the toenail, bandaged him up and sent him home with us. We were allowed to take the bandage off on Wednesday night (although his brother Buddy tried to take it off for him several times :)) Here's my question: is Champ supposed to still be limping a little bit? Because he is limping slightly, I have checked the toe and it looks good, I know they cauterized it at the vet, so maybe it's still just sore? Anybody with experience would be helpful. I plan on calling the vet in the morning just to be safe.

It is probably just a bit sore still. If it doesnt improve in another day or so, you might want to have it rechecked to be sure he didn't fracture or break his toe in the process--not that there is a whole lot to be done with a fractured toe, other than let it heal, but it is possible he hurt his leg somehow in the toenail accident (twisted, strained, etc)

Also, pay close attention to him to see if he limps all the time and even on the same foot. I doubt this is the case since yours did have something substantial done but mine are good at turning the guilt on. Brady broke his quite a while ago but for the longest time afterwards he would limp around on it to make up feel bad. He wouldn't do it all the time but when he decided to turn the guilt on he would limp. Maybe if you gave him extra attention, which I am sure you probably did, he may be prolonging the extra lovins'

Hope he feels better soon!
