Just a quick question. Our little girl was spayed just over 1 week ago and she has been less energetic since the operation. She spends most of the time just laying around the house and when she gets up she seems a little sore. She is eating and drinking food like normal, we are just used to her being extra hyper during the day. Has anyone else experienced this?
Just one more thing, about four days after the surgery her stitches came out and they had to staple the wound back up. I think that might have something to do with it but i am reading stories about other boxers jumping off the walls after a couple of days. Any advice or similar stories would be great. Thanks

As with humans, dogs all heal and get their normal energy back at different rates.

The surgery your girl had is comparable to a human female having a hysterctomy and that is not a heal in a week surgery (actually most docs keep their patients out of work up to 8 wks depending on how complicated the surgery was) Your girl was cut open and had organs removed. Its not uncommon for a dog to take a bit longer than some to get back to normal.

Not to mention, your in Alabama right? I bet its overly hot and humid there. I know my dogs are not even at 1/3 their normally energy level (they are pups at 4 1/2 months and 5 mths old). I bet your girl has a double whammy to deal with..the actual surgery AND the heat and humidity.

I can tell you from personal experience (I had a surgery comparable to a hysterectomy in the summertime). I was very sore, very tired and the heat made it worse.

My boys go for a neutering Tuesday. I hope your girl gets to feeling better soon.

I hope you have at least gotten some rain with all these thunderstorms the past week. I haven't even gotten a tenth of an inch in the past three weeks. We keep getting the wind and lightning but the rain keeps missing us by a couple of miles.

Keep a check on her though to make sure she hasn't got an infection, you may need to take her temp.

Even when the outside is healed, remember that it takes longer for the insides to heal.

If everything is fine with her, then it is good that she is resting a lot.

Rogue sends big licks.

Hope she's back to normal soon.

:)
