I'm wondering what course of action to take, My friend seen somebody putting something through the fence and her dog was eating it. She screamed at him and he kept on doing it then casually walked away. This might have been going on for a while because her dog didn't want to get off the couch lately for a morning pee and was drooling excessively for the last few days. What can be done?....Police wont do anything and if I take matters in my own hands, I would probably end up in jail. especially the way I feel right now. What can be done? Thanks. (Miles Dad)

Put up a second fence so the pup cannot get to the other fence. I agree with Cami, I don't understand why they wont get involved. Get the pup to a vet and talk with the vet and see what they can do.

I hope your friends dog is going to be ok :(

I don't understand why the police aren't doing anything either. I would contact the local SPCA and see if they can help your friend with any recourse. In the meantime I wouldn't let the dog out alone at anytime. I don't know what the laws are where you are, but everywhere I have lived you have a right to protect your property. (I know our pups are our family members but in the eyes of the law they are property.) If the person comes back your friend can use a reasonable amount of force to protect his property. I hope his pup is doing well.

Has the dog gone to the vet and is there proof that he is being poisoned? What kind of poison? Who is the man that was doing this and can the owner identify him for any questioning? Is the owner able to prove that the dog was being fed something poisonous and not just a treat? Some people are stupid and actually feed any animal. Both my husband and I are law enforcement officers and there has to be proof of a crime in order to open a case. If the owner can prove any of these the police should respond. If not, try calling another police agency or ask to speak to a superior officer. There are animal cruelty charges in every state. Unfortunately, most states don't take them very seriously. Good Luck!

Thanks

When I said the Police won't do anything, they took take a statement, but it's not like they are doing much else. A dog should be safe in the yard with a high fence.... She said her dog always went to that same area and ate something that was laying there and one time she seen a guy stuffing something through the fence. She is having the dog checked out and she blocked off that area so it can't happen there again. I told her not to ever leave him unattended. Thanks for your response.

Sorry your friend is dealing with this. :( I hope his boxer is ok.

I'd put up a second fence (doesn't have to be tall) about 2 feet inside the other fence. Even a wire fence to keep the boxer away from any thing that may get pushed through holes in the fence. And, don't let him out unattended.

Another thought is to put up signs that say something like "Property monitored by security cameras" and put a fake camera (or a real one, even better) in a visible, but non-reachable spot. Video footage would also help with any police investigations that may happen.

I would also recommend some additional security measures. I had a couple friends who had dogs in not the best neighborhood. Apparently someone came by and fed their dogs on a daily basis and then broke into their house without the dogs going on alert as they normally would because they were familiar with the person. Scary stuff.

I'm so sorry this is happening to your friend, personally i never leave my dogs outside unattended, basically because i'm neurotic and if i can't see them i'm thinking the worst lol

But isn't it a sad world we live in where people can't let their dogs run and play in their own yard without worrying they are going to be harmed. When we have to worry about taking extra security measures in our own homes because of vandals and lowlifes.

If only everyone just got along and lived happily ever after :(

Oh and if it were me, and someone was poisoning my dog, there would be serious consequences...i all but gave birth to those boys and i don't know what I would do without them, especially if them being sick or worse were due to some mean, uncaring, horrible disgusting human. :O)
