Hailey has natural ears also and a docked tail. We love the ears and we call them napkins as they flop over just like napkins when folded in a triangle on the table.:D We can tell how she is feeling just by her ears sometimes, if they are floppy, pulled back or all over the place;) . Love the natural ears!!

For those who have, or have had Boxers with their tails intact, do they "wiggle butt" the same as boxers with docked tails, or do they move more like other dogs when they wag their tails?

I remember reading that the practice of docking was started in self defense. The article said that when a Boxer with its tail intact got excited, they would damage things in the home, and actually administer bruises with their tails. Does this conform to your experiences with a "tailed" Boxer?

Tom, to answer both your questions, Beau does the "wiggle butt" the same as Samantha with her docked tail. He kidney beans, too.

I haven't been bruised by Beau's tail yet! Feet, toe nails, and teeth, yes.

Although, I didn't put up a tree this past Christmas, I'd probably say that Beau's tail won't be any more damaging that my lab mix, Pepper's tail was. She could clear ornaments off the lower branches of the tree with her tail easily! Maybe I'll put up the tree this year, if I'm brave!

The funniest thing is to watch a boxer chase his tail! All of a sudden, Beau just starts to whirl around and around chasing his tail! It's hilarious!

I actually think docking in guarding breeds was akin to cropping - it's one less thing to grab on to and disable the dog. Sporting breeds are also docked to avoid getting tails caught in bushes.

I'm paradoxial about ears. In Boxers, I prefer the floppy look, perhaps because most of the Boxers I've met are natural. However, I prefer the cropped look in Dobermans. I had a neighbor as a child with a cropped Doberman, and he was a beautiful dog.
