Natural

Max has natural ears but his tail is docked, love the ears both ways though. If I would have adopted him earlier might have had the ears cropped.

Maggie has natural ears and a docked tail. The ears were actually part of the reason we chose Maggie. You see, my hubby wanted to crop the ears but I was absolutely against it - it was a big debate in our house once we decided on getting a boxer. When we were at the breeder's, she had two females for us to choose from. I liked the younger one. She was smaller and didn't have as much white on her. She was also the calmer of the two. Joe liked Maggie, so he offered a comprimise. He said that if we got Maggie, we wouldn't have to crop the ears. I jumped right on the offer (I couldn't imagine putting our new baby through that) and we brought Maggie home. Now I can't imagine having any dog but Maggie!

I also agree with Arc4 - I think the cropped ears make them look more aggressive (even though I know what sweethearts they are!)

Mason and Aspen both have Natural ears ( Their tails were done B4 we got them)

** Question: When do they do the tails cause we got Mason @ 8wks and Aspen @ 6wks??????

tail docking

I believe the tails, if they are going to be docked, are done VERY early, like before a week old. Can't imagine how painful it would be if they were any older and their tails started to 'mature' too. I'm not a breeder and my dog was already docked, but I think this happens soon after the pups are born.

Dobies with the ears natural have similar ears to Rottweilers. Floppy, cute, and kind of Lab-like.

Makes Dobies look more like hounds with the ears down.

Interestingly, I've seen a small percentage of Rottweilers with ears cropped. I don't like the look, but it looks better on them than on Dobies, IMO. I prefer natural ears by a thousand times on Rottweilers (my Rott had natural ears). For breeds that do not naturally have up ears I think cropping looks bad and makes them look mean.

Dogs like German Sheppherds look fine with ears up, but of course their ears are up naturally.

All IMO. YMMV

Victoria came to us with natural ears and dewclaws but a docked tail....
I love the floppy eared look... my husband preferrs cropped. I'm glad we have our natural boxer baby!! She's just a doll and her ears are SOOO soft! LOL

I like the look of cropped ears... but I know it is painful for the dog when it gets done and can introduce other problems... I would be happy with either but I'm glad my baby girl's ears are floppy. LOL

I think tails are docked at 4-5 days, right? I read on BW a couple weeks ago that docking a tail a lot later is akin to amputation...

I believe "tail docking" is done when they are just days old. Though I could be wrong.

Ikaika and Mailani both came with their tails docked, but I just couldn't cut their ears. They are natural eared and beautiful. lovicon
