Boxer Buddy
I have a great 4 month old boxer who is smart energetic and all around a love. This is my first boxer and was very excited to finally find a puppy that had a great outgoing lovable personality. I had golden retrievers my whole life and needed a change, So after several years of living in an apartment I finally was able to buy my first house and Tonka my fawn boxer came a month after that.
Let the Gripping begin
I can’t tell you how tired I am of people’s negative comments. Things like “oh you got a Boxer” or “ be careful Boxers are very high strung”; I even had a clerk tell me “I hate those dogs”. (How could you hate a 10-week-old puppy?) I grew up with golden retrievers, but I am a new life long convert to “Boxerdome” I am forever sold on boxers. They keep life interesting…. How else would I know what it’s like being timed out in his puppy kindergarten class for rough play during puppy socialization? Or what falling out of bed is like because my 30-pound goof ball wanted my side of the pillow. Or a dog that visits me in the shower each morning but wont go out to pee in the rain?
I have become quite defensive of the breed. SOOOOO!! To the “I hate those dogs” clerk my response was “Well MISS he hates clerks go figure why”….

Boxer owners Unite!!!!!! LOL I say we march on Washington. Tonka will gladly pull me all the way there, as long as I take off his gentle leader. And Im sure your dogs will also !!!!

Include me in that march! I will forever have Boxers in my home. They are by far the best! All those people with their negative comments have never had a Boxer kidney beaing around the room when you get home from work, or licking you face like only Boxers can do! All I can say to them, "you don't know what you're missing!" IMO those types of people don't deserve the love that Boxers have to offer!

I told my boyfriend last weekend that we should get a bumper sticker that says

"It's a Boxer thing... you wouldn't understand"

No, no, no. We don't want to change a thing. They'll become even more popular, creating a greater demand which in turn causes puppy mills and byb's to step up their breeding programs.

A boom in any dog's popularity promotes careless breeding which is responsible for many of the health issues found in popular breeds.

I'm not without sympathy for your position. They are hyper when they first greet people, but will quickly calm down. They shed, they fart, they snore, they'll leave boogers on your curtains, clothes, upholstery and blankets. The Boxer traits thread has an ever growing list of "undesirable" traits. Ours are no exception.

What is amazing about these dogs that in spite of all these cons, their comittment and devotion is unswerving, their personalities unrivaled, and their character so sterling that these traits become trivial. Indeed when we lose one of them we actually miss those "nasty" habits and would give an arm to have them back.

Let's keep it our own secret. If others don't care for them, it's their own loss. We know the truth.

my best friends parents hate them too, seems when they lived in FL one use to chase kids down the street barking and growling at them. i told them, my girls were not like that and i had never met a boxer like that. but they are still very adament about "hating" boxers - i just said u guys r crazy and that was the end of it - i am still sending them our christmas card with pics of the girls :)

I agree with Tom L totally. I just assume let people think what they will of boxers, only we know the truth :)

ahhhhh good idea! where do you get one of them? lol. Tom, i agree the negative comments are hard on the head. i love my baby and am extremely defensive as well. i think the people who don't like our dogs are the ones we wouldn't want to see as a dog owner anyway. chances are if they have rocks in their heads... lol. i agree with the keeping it our little secret idea.... so.... boxer owners UNITE! lol... shhhhhh

My Mother has been converted!

When I told my Mom that I was going to get my first boxer Quila, about 7 years ago...she said "No! They're mean! One used to chase me home from school every day!" Then she met Quila, and grew to totally love her. Now she says that the dog from her childhood was probably just wanting her to play:)
I agree with the others though. When I meet people who say they want a dog, and ask about my Lily, I tell them all about the 'bad traits' as well as the good. I'd rather tell them about that stuff than have to find their boxer a home later on......

I know plenty of people who didn't like Boxers.....until they actually met one. When I had minr,I couldn't keep people off him.I would get strangers coming up to me asking if they could pet him.

I've come to learn that for all the things people don't like about my dog.....those are the things I love them best for. Why else would I pick eye boogers and jowl remnants off of my furniture and pants when I clean.

Anyone who says any dog is ugly or bad doesn't love dogs.
