oh my! Do not get angry. Stay calm and teach your dog baby the leave it command. Give time to puppy. Boxers figure things out. and are independent. Praise,Praise,Praise. is the ticket for a boxer, when he does leave it and move away from the childrens food, do sit command and reward with a toy or one of his treats. I do not pick up shoes with a new puppy, I know I will have a few chewed., but that is how they learn. I stay calm, pick up chewed shoe or catch it before chewed and still in puppys mouth, say NO SHOOOES!, yes spelled as said, then replace with one of the puppys toys. never anger, Boxers go deaf when yelled at. I refuse to live with my dogs they live with me. I am always training my dogs every day. Good luck. Your children will have a soulmate for life in that puppy who will grow up with them and be a positive experience for life. When they are 40 they will remember that boxer who ate their cheese bugers. lol.

Well stated. ;) I agree. We eat on the couch as well, mine are not even allowed to stare at me, no drooling and no begging. They can look, just not stare as if begging. It was not hard to teach. We have always had them sit before being allowed to eat. Not long, just an exercise of good manners. As soon as we say "get it" they are munching down. They also know "drop it". Also, mine definitely know not to eat anything belonging to a human without it being given to them. As a matter of fact, they are not even allowed to eat from each other's bowls. When I took two females in, it is one of the things we taught to keep the peace and it have never been an issue. Good luck and try not to isolate him, try to teach him. :)

We have the same problem with our collie. It drives my husband INSANE! We have spent the last 3 and half years trying to teach him "down, stay" while eating and he STILL gets up and walks around the dining room and than towards the baby's highchair..... now we have given up and he goes outside while we eat. I would spend most of my meals correcting his behavior and with 5 kids it is hard enough to eat a hot meal. :)'
While yours is still a puppy I hope the training helps and he stops that. Just wondering while this is a VERY normal behavior for a 6 month old, is he getting an adequate diet? I was feeding our collie a certain food and I noticed this snitching behavior became CRAZY where he was climbing on the table to steal food! I talked with a local breeder who told me to change his food to a brand with a higher fat content. That worked great! He now only lays under the table waiting for food to fall or passes waiting for it to fall while drooling.. :/

We've always taught our dogs to lay in their "place" while we eat, and they aren't allowed in the kitchen EVER. (We have a kitchen table and a formal dining room.) We also never feed them "people food". This way they don't have different rules for different times. Consistency is always the best way to go.

He started off eating his food really well, it wasnt untill he got a piece of people food that it got out of hand. Our boys would think it was funny to feed him. They just got a kick out of those big floppy lips eating from thier hands LOL So we really had to work with the kids and Ceasar. We are not 100% yet but Ceasar is doing a lot better. And he clears his own bowl. When we eat, we send him to the living room. He does really good now, he will go lay down. Thats as long, as I'm at the table with my kids though. If I wasnt at the table with them he would sneak in their lol. So even if I'm not eating I sit with them.

Yes I agree! I do get upset sometimes but I try my best to stay calm. I want to do things right with Ceasar. He is a wild butt sometimes and even drives me crazy lol, but I do continue to work with him everyday. I started putting treats in my pocket lol "pup-a-roni" his favorite!! It works really well, I always have some handy. Whenever I catch him doing something bad, I just say nooooo then I make him go lay down. When he does I pull a piece of pup a roni out of my pocket. At first he was like what? but he listens to me now! He is doing much better with the taking food from the kids. When he leaves them alone he gets treats. He now knows sit, laydown, stay and shake! yay!! lol We plan to get ceasar a little brother or sister soon! We think that would be really good for him. I dont think we can have just one Boxer lol Take care!!

Good news!!!! Sounds like your work is paying off!

And I know what you mean.....you can't have just ONE boxer! LOL I rescued a mix before the boxer addiction kicked in. Otherwise, I may have 3 on my hands today! And I'd be a very happy part of the pack!
