btw- she is completely normal other than her stools the last few days and her wanting to eat grass and vomit. she's been her usual playful self and has a great appetite. i'm so stumped as to what could be going on to make her tummy feel so bad. i keep checking her stools to make sure there's nothing weird in it, but so far i haven't seen anything. she licks her rear area a lot, so i have been checking for signs of worms, but again, so far nothing. she did get a dewormer at 8 weeks and her stool sample was negative, not to say she couldn't have picked something up since.

Also, is she taking any meds from the vet? maybe that's what it is making her stool weird...

the vet didn't mention anything about her anal glands when i explained how her stools have been. she mentioned she could have a little ulceration.

the only thing she's on right now is flagyl (which should help any bowel irritation, not hurt it as far as i know) and 5mg prilosec (as of last night) to help ease her tummy. the stool change occurred immediately after her sickness (whatever the cause may be from), which was also the day they started feeding her the bland food- a canned gastroenteric formula... makes her farts REALLY stinky. ever since all this started her poops have been very dark, soft ice cream consistency (coils, but isn't firm), a little delayed in timing, and somewhat smaller. so something is going on in there. i'm just super paranoid and worried about what it could be because dark stools usually suggest some kind of bleeding... and everything i read online says take your dog to the vet right away. i've called and spoke to both her vets and neither seemed alarmed when i explained her stools.

her blood work was "consistent with that of a growing puppy" and her fecal tests done the day she was admitted was ok.

i went to my parents at lunch to check on her to try to ease my mind. my dad said she hadn't thrown up yet but she hadn't pooped since i brought her there this morning, so i don't know if there's been any change there since her breakfast (mixed bland diet and blue kibble).

Kona has issues from time to time getting soft stools. Any medicine or change in diet, voila, she's got the runs or just gets really soft. One thing our vet recommended was a child's dose of Pepto-Bismol. Works like a charm. Might be something you could ask your vet about.

Hope she continues to get better and you can have some peace to just enjoy that darling little puppy.

thanks for the tip. so far so good. no more vomiting since she's been on the prilosec and her stools have been normal colored (but still soft). it could be from the flagyl i guess. she'll be off both in a few days so hopefully everything remains normal after that. it's been over a week since her exposure to the parvo pup, so i feel relieved that she's pretty much out of the woods there
