So mad at neighbors! Thora exposed to Parvo!

Thora is home!!!
She kept her meal down last night and was pretty perky and energetic, so the vet let us pick her up and bring her home late last night. Still no leads as to what made her sick, but the vet said we did the right thing since she's had contact with a Parvo infected dog. Her having Parvo still isn't out of the realm of possibility, but this episode wasn't related, or she would have gotten much worse, not better. So we have to continue to monitor her, but as of now, she's doing great!! I'm so relieved. I hope we can just get the next week or so past us quickly and put the dreaded thought out of my head. What a scary (and expensive) day!
This irritated me though- We were about ready to go to bed when I heard the neighbors out front on the sidewalk WITH the puppy. So she's out there spreading the virus. I wanted to go out there and give them a piece, but I was so tired and upset from the day that I figured I should wait till I calm down to address them. My vet said that puppy should have been quarantined for a period after recovery because she can still spread Parvo cells, and if she's touched her feces at all then she is rampantly spreading it. My vet said the overwhelming majority of Parvo cases they see there are from my zip code, which didn't surprise me because most people in this neighborhood don't take care of their children let alone their dogs (perfect example there).

First of all - I'm SO SO happy that Thora is doing well and is home safe and seems to be out of the woods as far as the Parvo thing goes.
I volunteer for a rescue and if we ever have puppy parvo come into a foster home - no other dogs are allowed in there for at least 6 months due to the fact that as someone preivously mentioned- parvo can hang around for a LONG time.
My biggest issue is your neighbors. It sounds horrible there - so horrible they probably aren't even taking care of that dog and they are out on the street with him/her spreading Parvo. Idiots. I would consider calling animal control and explaining what they are doing - ask if there is any way someone could come over there to discuss with them or something?
That may be an unreasonable option depending on how your neighbors are - so I apologize if that is true - I don't want to risk your safety obviously - but people like that who own dogs PISS me off. You know darn well that the dog isn't going to have a good life over there if that is the way it is run. I wonder where they even got that dog from.....
anyway - main point - is I'm really really happy that Thora is okay. Keep us updated on how she does in the next few days here!

Tell me about it! It drives me INSANE how these people are with their pets. I haven't yet had a chance to talk to them but I'm going to try to explain how much wrong they are doing right now... I doubt they will pay much attention to me, but at least I can try. It just sucks because it's getting spread EVERYWHERE. I wonder if their vet explained the quarantine thing with them at all? I would certainly hope so. Maybe they brushed it off thinking that MOST dogs are vaccinated? I don't know. Why someone would put other animals at risk like that is beyond me- obviously they only care about themselves. We're waiting to start Thora at puppy kindergarten specifically because i don't want to put other puppies at risk *if* she should come down with parvo... which as each day passes, i grow more hopeful that she won't
I would call animal control, but quite frankly, I'm a little nervous about what they might do, and I DO have to live next to them... at least until we move. If animal control goes there, they'll know it was us who called- i mean heck, the day after they brought the puppy home we put a giant privacy fence up. I don't care if they like or dislike us, I'm more worried about having trouble with them in the future. People do messed up things... and there are some BAD people in and out of that house. So I'm going to try the peaceful approach for now and hope it sinks in.

Thora is continuing to do well
She has been eating a little grass, and licking my parent's floor ingesting some Zach hair... I guess her tummy still isn't back to normal yet. Her stools have been weird colored (dark) and a little soft the last 2 days, but I think it's due to the abrupt change in diet and the stress on her system from being sick. My dad said she threw up a little yesterday, but it was after eating grass and licking up dog hair. He put her in the crate because she kept doing it, and after he let her back out she was fine. So I'm still unsure of what she managed to get ahold of that is making her tummy upset, and we'll continue to watch her closely. She's back to being a spunky little monster puppy haha, so that's good.

grrr... still weird, dark, "ice cream" stools. i hope it's not an indication of blood :( we started mixing her bland wet food with her normal dry food today. if her stool doesn't start changing color or firming up i'm thinking we have another trip to the vet :/
yesterday she was trying to eat grass so aggressively, lunging at the back door to be let out to eat grass. i called the vet because i was concerned, and she said to try 5mg of an acid reducer for a few days and see if it calms her tummy down. i'm more worried about the poop- if there's something not right inside, of course she feels icky and wants to eat grass.
