Sun Burn spray helps too

Our first boxer had allergies and when he got really bad and nothing else would work we used a spray for sun burn. Watch so he doesn't lick too much. It numbs the area and can give some quick relief. Barkley had really thick skin from all the scratching on his front shoulders. Good luck, we never really found anything too make it stop. Lots of benedryl, claritin and prednisone. The shots never seemed to help so we gave up on them. We now have 2 females 1 1/2 years old and so far so good.

I know they can do blood work to find out what he's allergic to.

What about benedryl? The cream? Or oral?

Good luck.

you should ask the vet to check for a yeast skin infection. Is your dog getting the really smelly ears/ear infections also along with this. My dog had this same thing and they were stumped becasue they werent the usual mites/etc. But she ended up having a yeast skin infection which a medicated shampoo fixed, but apparently allergies caused it and she would scratch til she bled!!!! it was horrible

Your poor baby....I KNOW what it's like. Like mika's mama, I have a Boxer who is allergic to air allergents. It really drives her crazy sometimes. She is just recovering from another bout with it now. When it gets really bad, I have her given the steroid injections. But otherwise I use extra oils in her food, and bath her alternately in oatmeal shampoos and a nice shampoo that I have found that is hypo-allergenic and contains aloe and coaltar. I wash her bedding often, and try to keep her immediate area as dust-free as possible. (Which ISN'T easy with dogs running around!!) If she gets a stubborn patch that resists healing, I use a gel that I get from my vet called Fuciderm, and that seems to do the trick. Very best wishes with getting your sweetie sorted out....hope he gets some relief really soon!!
