And I just feel better giving Mojo better food - after I read what I was feeding him, it almost made me sick!

Now, since I have learned so much already from everyone on the site I have to ask another question.

What about treats, etc.? What do you all feed your boxers as treats?

THANKS!

You could just use kibble as treats. That's what I do most of the time. There are also high quality grain free treats available at pet stores, for example from Wellness. Just avoid things like "Pup-Peroni", "Snausages" and the like. You can also use "real" food, like cooked chicken, some cheese once in a while or a hot dog. For everyday situations my dogs get kibble as treats but during training or anytime I need something high value I use chicken, roast beef, cheese or hotdogs.

I give Raine Wellness Jerky (various flavors), EVO, again various flavors and chicken/beef liver. All are grain free. There is also a container of her regular kibble near the back door and she gets a piece here and there throughout the day.

Often times there will be a shelf of high priced treats with great marketing on the packages. Be sure to read the fine print and know what your dog is sensitive to.

Layla is sensitive to grain. I am usually good a reading the fine print on the packages. However messed up last week. Was in a hurry and bought a very well known " premium" treat I have seen used by trainers and others at agility. A few days later we noticed Layla had broken out in a rash, something she never has done before. Trying to understand the cause made us think of the new treat. Perhaps it was coincindence, and something else is going on. However finally reading the fine print we found "wheat." Needless to say, the remainder of the package went in the trash.

I like to give my dogs a "cookie" when I leave the house. For this I use Nature's Variety Intinct line. They are grain free and my dogs LOVE the rabbit flavor. My dogs also love apple slices, and one will not let me eat a banana by myself. Some dogs like carrots as well.

For bigger treats I'll also take a kong and put in apples and plain yogurt or peanut butter and some kibble and then freeze the kong and then give it to them.

For "cookie" type treats, we either give Instict biscuits (rabbit is the fave so far) or Growling Gourmet crackers (locally produced, very tasty).

For training treats, I use a mix of things. Kibble, buddy biscuits (cut in half, so pea sized), wellness jerky (again cut into pea sized pieces), and possibly hot dog or string cheese. Lately I've been out of dog treats (the horrors! ), so Johann has had to suffer through hot dogs, string cheese, and roast beef for training classes. Poor neglected boy.

You can also cut up cooked chicken or turkey and use that as treats.

Cornelius gets "cookies" all the time. For the most part, I use Mother Nature Beef Stew (or Buffalo Stew) biscuits for when I leave the house or for his "nite-nite" cookies. Can't remember what I use for the "leave the kitty" command and the ones I use on his walks but they are small salmon ones. Now, I'll have to go check.

I found lamb jerky at a tractor supply close to where i live. Its like a drug for my dogs. They smell it and get the shakes and the butts wiggle so fast! I can get them to do almost anything it seems with this jerky once they calm down a bit from excitement.
