So frustrated w/ kids at the dog park

You will know a dog park when you see one. They are fenced off with a ton of dogs running around. In Oregon we also have off-leash hours at some of the regular parks that are not fenced when certain hours of the day your dog can run around off-leash (usually really early or late when it's almost dark, but better than nothing I guess)

LuvDaBabies -if you do a search for Off-leash dog runs in Colorado, many places advertise their parks using the Internet. Hope you can find one in your area - they really are a lot of fun for dogs and also hours of blissful silence for you when they get home, as they're sooo tired

This park has signs indicating it's a dog park. Right behind the park is a play area for kids.

That's tough when the parents aren't even there. I get very frustrated with kids like that too. Most dog parks have rules that don't allow children in without an adult escort. Perhaps, next time, you can just note the rules and ask them to go get their parents if they want to play there.

We always leave when parents bring in kids and let them run wild. Tess plays so rough - I just know that she will playfully knock one of them over and the parents will blame the dog, not themselves for letting their kids behave in that way. It's just not worth the liability to me.

Sorry you had to deal with that. It stinks, but if I don't like what's going on, I almost always just leave.

Kinda far for me, but I might be able to make it sometime. I go to an "unofficial" dog park that a church takes care of on their property. Have you ever been to the Clackamas dog park boxer day? I think its the second or third Sunday of every month. I want to make it there sometime.

It is unbelieveable how some parents just don't get it. How would these kids like if our boxers were pushing them off their swings or tossing them off of the see-saws. We have had a couple of issues at our dog park. Kids running after the dogs and throwing balls AT them. There is a big sign at the gate that says "Children must be supervised." Children, especially young ones need to be trained how to be with dogs. We have a 1 year old and we spend 1 hr everynight of baby/puppy time where we all lay together on the floor and show Cole (my son) how to pet and make nice to the puppies and let him interact on his own with them.

If Got forbid, something happens, it is always the dogs fault.

we had the same problem at the dog park we used to go to.. Usually people bring their kids on the weekends.. there was one family w/ like 5 young kids and a Chihuahua puppy that was like 3mos old :mad: It was tiny.. then when Nikki started to take interest in the little pup, the kids tried to get all defense, pushing Nikki away and such.. needless to say, i went quickly to grab Nikki. Theres a "regular" lady who had a semi-autistic child (10yrs old maybe?), NEVER watched her son. He would run around w/ toys like bats, and large sticks, swinging them around.. chasing dogs, smacking the other dog owners there, and just plain being obnoxious. He throws things at dogs and people, and one time he was even rolling around on the ground shirtless! :eek: All the while, the mother, doesn't do anything.. she doesn't discipline him at all.. and i understand that he is somewhat autistic, but this boy is getting bigger, and stronger.. and when he's hitting other people and dogs, the mother needs to do something about it. I've watched her get smacked by her own son, and her not even do anything about it! AND her dogs are just as bad! They are these 2 obnoxious dogs that gang up on other dogs and bark and nip and growl.. its SO annoying. the other regulars finally got fed up and told her that either she needs to watch her son better (and her dogs), or don't bring him, or don't come at all. UGHH.. i feel your pain .. dog park for DOGS.. childrens park, for CHILDREN!

oh I so know how you feel. Theres a park behind my house. Literally when you step out my backyard you take one more step and youre in the park. The daycare kids go in there and when our dogs are out they scream at them throw stuff at them, lately theyve been waving their little snow shovels at them. ALso when im working my dogs therell be kids out and theyll bark at them.

Our Bark Park has a large sign with The Rules posted, one of which is no one under 12, and a Ranger who visits sporadicly to enforce.

If these "parents" are this irresponsible to the safety of their kids in public, imagine what could be going on in their homes. You may be doing these children a great service by reporting these actions to the proper authorities, ditto on the daycare. I would venture to say that parents of the kids left to the trust of these daycare workers would be very concerned with the lack of basic supervision to the potential hazard here, and perhaps a wake-up call will bring action on this. If the tables were turned, I know animal control would be knockin' at your door. Do the right thing; it may save heartache for many down the road, especially for those who cannot or do not speak for themselves.
